Sold my GTI yesterday and couldn't sleep last night
Thanks gang - I'll let you know how the sportline goes!
<Contented sigh>
mate I wouldn't be worried. Everything that makes a golf a golf (it's character) will still be there in the sportline. You won't have the turbo rush, but it's still a golf. It's not like you've gone and bought a corolla or something.
My last golf (before getting the fully bombed out pirelli) was a 1.6 trendline. The trendline didn't have the power or excitement, but the "VW character" was still there in spades. I doubt you'll miss it one bit, considering you've still got a VW in the family.
Going from a VW to something else though, that's tough... We sold our 1.6 trendline to buy a Mazda CX9 ( yeah - kids and all ) and I missed the golf so bad I couldn't wait to get back into another one.
I have only had my GTI for sale for 1 week and it sold for $34,000. It was a 5dr, white, manual, no options with 25,000km on the clock. I decided to sell it due to dwindling second hand prices and mt wife not really utilising the cars features to justify the investment, and insurance etc.
The people came and picked it up last night - they were really nice people and so excited. It was my turn to cook dinner for my wife so I invited them to stay and we had dinner as I explained how to work the car etc. They had never driven a VW before and owned an old Nissan Pulsar so they were loving all the features.
I was really happy with the price we got for it, but once they had left I kind of felt like I was saying good bye to an old friend. Actually made me feel sad and last night I had a crap night sleep dreaming out it.
It's amazing the emotional connection we have, especially with a car that is just SO good. GTI's really are the nicest cars I've ever driven but today $15,000 will be off the homeloan and we pick up our MKV sportline this afternoon.
And that is the right decision.
Yes...
It is...
Um....
Hmm...?
Hi guys, just got our new GTI and guess who's it was? The mighty moogs =D
Don't worry Blair your GTI has definitely found a good new home. Sorry to hear you had a restless night over her If it is any consolation I also had a restless night but it was because I had a hot new car in the garage
Thanks for keeping the GTI in such an awesome condition, it is so nice to meet really cool peeps like yourself.
Keep up the great work on mightycarmods mate! 1978 and your vegetable soup is the bomb.
I'm confused because she thought your car was better she is now driving a mkV FSI instead of what was originally your GTI....fair enough :ballandchain:
Given Sydney house prices does $15K really make a dent in the mortgage?

Got the sportline 2 hours ago. Inside has been detailed. Dropping it off for an external detail in 20 minutes before I present it to Mrs Blue Reality at dinner time. I got a 6sp manual in black magic, anthracite interior. Really happy with it!
kryten2001, yes it's the white GTI from Mighty Car Mods. I'm the guy with the white guy fro (actually you can't see it cause I'm always wearing a hippy head band when we shoot)
This episode is what started me thinking of selling it - it's a true story...
I just started watching that vid.
They're the same rims as mine! Audi replicas...hehe 1:51 mins in.
Ahh... as soon as they fitted them at Tempe Tyres I had a huge smile on my face. I love em.
Hehe...
"The rear lights are an easy upgrade, especially with precise German instructions.. "Klick Klick"

HEY HEY!! Welcome to the forum guys. They're a good bunch on here and I'm sure they'll give you all the info you need.
How's the car going? I went to the bank yesterday and put the extra cash off the home loan so that was good!
And I've been sleeping very well ever since... HA!
Glad you're enjoying it and see you soon - come pick me up sometime for a drive

OK so this is the deal. My wife had a 316i BMW. I had a 2000 model MK4 GTI. She had some problems with her BMW so sold it, took over my GTI and I bought this thing: (don't laugh)
After being in that for a month or two I thought, actually I work hard, and have always had older/crappy cars so I'm going to get a MKV GTI. Picked it up from VW and was SO pleased.
Soon after she borrowed the MK5 GTI while the MK4 was getting a service and then I never got it back and it's been her car ever since.
It is the best car either of us has ever owned but we are possibly going to be going overseas in the next year and the car was not really being appreciated for it's full GTI'ness and only doing a city to double bay drive each day with occasional trip up the coast. So after doing some number crunching on the home loan we decided it would be best to sell it and downgrade to sportline until we head OS.
So now she has the MK5 sportline and I got my MK4 back and have been modifying it ever since.
