Sounding the horn when you lock the car?

Hi All,

Is it possible (with Vagcom) to make the horn sound quietly when you lock your doors to confirm that they locked successfully? Similar to what the Ford Falcons do when you press the lock button twice.

The Jetta doesnt come with a factory alarm so I cant do the chirp on lock/unlock mod that you GTI owners can.

US* GTI owners don't get the battery backed up siren and if they enable the chirps they get their horn. However I'm not sure if it works without the alarm, it probably should but I understand from the US owners that the horn can be a bit annoying. Best way to find out is to try it and see what it sounds like or if it works.

Why would you want to do this and annoy your neighbours when you arrive home late at night? The loaner Toyota I had when mine was in the smash repairers did beep the horn and I found it exceptionally annoying as did my neighbours.

Off topic, but - I had a 2000 Camry and have a 2003 Corolla and they have this weird way to reset the horn/locking thingee... you move the auto transmission selector back and forth a number of times while pressing the brake pedal and move the indicator (I might be wrong in the specifics - I reset them a few days after purchase, so it's been 6 years). It was like a Masonic secret handshake (not that I should be taken to be confirming the existance of such things...)

Because if he has the full height MFD there is an option to turn off the arming chirp for this exact reason and not annoy his neighbours. Again this may only be applicable if an alarm is fitted but without trying no-one will really know.

Why not just press the remote locking button and then try a door handle to check that it's locked, it only takes a couple of seconds. Nothing personal, but I find these horn beeping / chirping locking devices very annoying and something used by people who like to be heard

I ask the same question every time the idiots (renting of course) next door have their mates arrive, you can hear.. sorry feel them coming about 2km away .

And the worse thing is that as their hearing get's progressively worse they have to keep upgrading until their eardrums burst and they bleed out in the car (well that's what I hope happens anyway ).

So a chirp on a car doesn't worry me in the slightest, a car horn does if it's activated for more then a fraction of a second for the purposes of arming/disarming.

Even if you forget to lock the car, it locks itself automatically...

I am pretty sure I have left my car unlocked in the garage at night and it didnt lock itself.

The main thing is sometimes the doors arent closed properly which would prevent the doors from locking.

I had this several times - rear left passenger door was not fully in, left by kids, you pressed the locking button and everything locks in, but the door was only half way engaged. You can't open it and you can't fully close it,so you have to unlock the car, close the door and lock again. I think my old Camry 98 would start beeping if not all doors were fully closed. This would be a good feature for VW.
