  • I've got mad spray can skills---Grill filled, painted, striped.

As per my post on MK5.com FYI for the people interested here.

The remaining screw holes are for my slimline number plate. Outer dealer drilled plug holes filled with bondo.

Hours and hours and hours and hours and hours of teaching myself to prep and practicing painting and redoing over and over. Now I have it down pat.

Paint in one motion from side to side perpendicular to the surface. One long stroke from outside of the object to the other side of the object finishing your stroke past the edge. Start from that side spraying before your reach the edge so that you are always already spraying when you start to pass over the surface to be painted.

    Duplicolor Gloss black
    Duplicolor Clear Closs
Red pinstripe tape. Gloss over top of it.

    Cheers

More pics to follow once its fitted. Also modded my badge so that its got a white backshadow, white bezel ring and black outside ring and black emblem as some others have done. Should look trick!

DIY ftw! nice to see another mk 5'er having at it!

Hit that with a nice cuttting compound and it'll come up really sharp, and get rid of the orange peel.

Can't wait to see it all fitted up!

      Cheers.

You really can't see the orange peel with the naked eye.... and in bright light the gloss shines brighter than any surface difference. So it looks very smooth in person. Camera makes it look like you can see stuff but IRL you can't so I am stoked.

It is my .... 5th attempt at a full repaint hehe.

        Practice makes perfect!

If you can't see it with the naked eye, I wouldn't be tooo fussed either.

That paint's gonna add a few grams of weight onto your car though.....

heheeh yeah.... Don't laugh but I did weigh the trim to see if it was worth leaving it off permanently LOL. Didn't weigh much at all.

I have compensated by losing another 2kg myself.

Yeah that's where I'm at. I didn't want to lose the bootliner for the same reason. Weighs next to nothing, and it looks aweful empty.

Run the car permently on 1/4 a tank or less. That'll save you 30kg right there.. haha....

Try a really nasty Chicken Vindaloo... that'll save you more kilos than 2kg!

You guys should see how good it looks now that its been drying for a few hours.... the paint has settled even smoother. I'm stoked with duplicolor! FTMFW!

Next on my agenda is doing some matching Red/black thin pinstripe on the interior door trims... Just $10 mods until a tune gets released.
