  • installing mic in the factory location

    Hi All,

I installed my Parrot 3200LS car kit a few months ago and put the microphone in the OEM location in the overhead console as I thought this looked the neatest.

After testing for a while, it appears that the sound quality is crap with the mic in this position. the callers on the other end complain that I am very quiet and muffled.

I will probably need to move the mic to another location but was wondering if the OEM mic suffers the same issues with sound quality. Has anyone got a microphone installed and can offer any feedback?

The OEM mic works perfectly in that location, never ever had a complaint and people rarely know I'm in the car unless I tell them.

This is the part number of the OEM microphone, it's expensive at around 30 pounds in the UK - 3B0 035 711B however this won't work with the parrot as it has different impedance etc.

I'm using this one in the OEM position with my WD6050, that I bought for the princely sum of $2.65, and it works so well that people don't even realise you're on hands free! It took me a few goes to find the one that worked best, but as you can see by the price, didn't exactly break the bank.

            Thanks guys.

Its strange cause I think the problem is the little vent/grill part blocking the sound. I have tried taking that part off so nothing is blocking the mic and the sound quality for the other person is much better.

I wonder why the OEM mic doesnt have this problem?

Because Volkswagen designed the microphone to work perfectly in that location whereas you're using a different type/quality of microphone.
