help on deciding which flash tune

Ive been doing a bit of digging in old posts and found something in regards to communication errors showing after flashing using ST3. Is this still happening or has it been totally resolved? Any ST3 guys had problems doing the flash or was it a 100% painless installation.
I am starting to sway towards the ST3 as everyone states it's a very smooth power/torque gain and EGT doesn't seem to be an issue.
Having never driven a flashed car before, how do you guys with bluefin describe the power/torque delivery?I used to be indecisive - now I'm just not sure....

Sorry for semi-jacking the thread, but it does affect the chipping of diesels.
My ideas off the top of my head, I have a page of ideas I keep adding to:
Cold air inlet, shield from engine bay hot air.
Minimise inlet restrictions.
Wrap cold side intercooler pipes
Maximise intercooler, a spray will do as stock is testing so good for road use.
Minimise EGR addition / heat.
Maximise oil cooling going to turbo, for you petrol types, boost the water cooling component to your turbo.
Big NASCAR brake electric fan for moving air over turbo at rest.
Overrun on shutdown for radiator fans.
Minimise exhaust restrictions.
Heat wrap exhaust "header"
For a diesel, add more air wherever possible.
Water/meth injection / other "additions".
Lower thermostat for radiator - so long as it's above the "choke" cycle.
Custom tune to suit, aiming for more overall torque rather than a max KW / EGT spike.
In a TSI keeping your twin air compressors cool as possible would be paramount. Your extra blower is just another source of inlet heat, and as Guy is finding, your exhaust temps stock are flippin high already! See the EGT thread. Chippeduk are back on the task of fixing the flash counter for the PPD ECU in the 125kw TDI and the MED9 ECU in the GTI so im hoping to see it soon.
As for the comms errors. I had forgotten about these however back when i flashed my car i did clear them with VAG-COM.
Ill check on this as i thought this was something they were also working on some time ago.Last edited by Guest; 26-03-2009, 06:12 AM.

Im interested in this thread as well.
As others here, the DIY aspect pulls me away from getting any of the apr kind of flashes. i just want to flash it, and forget about it, and in the event something happens, just reflash it back to stock.
I was leaning towards bluefin as well, not for outright speed, but like tdiesel, just low end torque, better drivability and the occasional squirt off the lights.
but if the st3 has an egt not much above stock, that may be the deciding factor for me.
im assuming that both of these are leaps and bounds ahead of the stock ecu mappings and that ill be happy with either option

I had no probs with the ST3 install process. When I purchased Bluefin it also caused the comms errors and took them ages to fix it (as they were in denial in the beginning). Eventually they fixed this & the flash counter increase. Chipped UK are now apparently working on it. It might be worth getting some type of cheap device capable of clearing the fault codes if going down the ST3 path?
Sometimes people report having troubles connecting to the Bluefin server, but it is no big deal you just email the files to them instead.
FYI The dealers I've been to don't seem to worry about the flash counter, but they don't like the comms errors.

Ok... After much investigation and deliberation I have decided which flash tune I am going to go with.
Thanks to all who contributed to this thread, it certainly raised a few questions that I wasn't even aware of and am sure this has also been valuable to others.
Oh..you're probably wondering which one I decided on? The winner is......wait for it.......keep waiting........................Isn't suspense great?!
I'll let you all know once it arrives and I've had a chance to see how it goesI used to be indecisive - now I'm just not sure....

Thread resurrection
For all those wondering what I ended up going with..the winner was Chippeduk ST3 and am happy to report that I am more than impressed with the result.
Power delivery is ohhhh sooooo smooth! Heaps better acceleration through the gears, turbo lag has been virtually eliminated and response has dramatically increased.
Prior to the flash tune I had a plug in module from TDC Technologies which actually worked ok for the money but pumped out more soot than a chimney sweep if I gave it a bootful of jungle juice.
My car now feels heaps more refined, revs more freely, pulls stronger and no more smoke screens. I couldn't be happier!
My experience with customer support at Chippeduk could not be faulted either. All my questions via e-mail were replied to within a few hours and receiving my new maps after sending the original read also occurred very fast.
Would highly recommend ST3 to any fellow TDI'ers looking for a great bang for buck power gain.
I bought mine through Logzy on here, give him a yell if you're interested and I'm sure he'll look after you.
ST3 Rocks :I used to be indecisive - now I'm just not sure....
