  • help on deciding which flash tune

Ok...without trying to start a chip/flash war here, I am after some REAL LIFE opinions from TDI owners in here who have been flashed with either Chippeduk ST3 or Bluefin software. I am trying to ascertain which flash is better suited to me as I'm looking to get my 2006 2.0L TDI flashed in the very near future. My car is a 2006 2.0L TDI (pre dpf, manual) and the main thing I am after is faster acceleration and low to mid range power/torque increase.

Please send comments good, bad or otherwise via PM to me
I used to be indecisive - now I'm just not sure....

Either the ST3 or bluefin would do you fine here both have non incrementing flash counter for your model vehicle and i doubt very much that you would notice the difference between them both.

        Bluefin for $990

Bluefin through Superchips is $990 at the moment - well in Perth anyway. There are plenty of threads here about chipping so get your fingers working. Superchips do the VW UK Racing team and according to the before & after figures from Superchips, the bluefin has the most effect on the 2.0TDi. I'll most likely to do it after the roadtrip.

I'm hoping not which is why I asked that people reply to me directly via pm

I'll clarify once again that I only want opinions from those guys who actually have had their TDI flashed.

Yes, lets see some maturity in a remap thread for a change (pretty please ? ) Maybe the TDIers aren't quite as rabid as the petrollers ?

And TDIESEL, if you do get some useful info, please post up a summary to help inform anyone else with a similar query.

I've heard a few people comment that the Bluefin flash fills in the turbo lag a little more than other flashes. Can anyone confirm this?

This is a positive in my book. The combination of turbo lag + slow DSG kickdown is a real bitch.

                  Another option for you:

                  Oettinger FTW.

                  No flash counter increase

                  EGT's within factory spec.

Fuel consumption better by 20% (up to 1200km's per tank recorded).

$1695 Including GST & Installation. Free reflash if dealer flashes your ECU.

Several reviews on this forum. (just use the search)

                  Another option for you anyway.

I've had minimal response so far so happy for TDI tractor owners to post here rather than send me a pm. But as Gregozedobe said, play nice. No dissing each others choice. Just state what helped make your decision and the actual results please.

Looks good but a bit out of my price range unfortunatley . Working in Defence and moving around also limits my options as I'm sure there wouldn't be many oettinger dealers outside of major cities. This is why my preference is for a DIY flash tuning option. Thanks for the info anyway, am sure it will benefit someone here

It's VERY important you look carefully at EGT's, especially in the 103kw version TDI. The stock 125 has several specific changes to help handle the thermal load, and the only turbo's I've heard about going kapow have been remapped 103kw'ers. This is no doubt a combination of surge, that is asking the turbo to work outside it's ability, and the big one, heat.

As I recently Vag commed a massive 820 deg in my stock ECU 125 on a blast up a hill, I'd be asking questions about the exhaust temps if you want the best option for your turbo's health. My recent book purchase from the USA on diesel tuning has legends like Gale Banks and Bully Dog recommending about 1300 deg F (704 deg C) maximums in their monster SUV diesels. Our's can't be particularily stronger, so it's the biggest issue I personally see with diesel remaps.

It's also why I'm spending all this time up front increasing my tractor's thermal handling, all in the aim of minimising EGT's once I get her chipped.

I have been looking at the Oettinger. But isn't it very very likely that if the dealer drives your car they'll know it's chipped anyway? Despite the flash counter? And without a handheld unit it's a bit hard to flash it back every time you go to the dealer.

Ah greg you beat me to it about EGTs. I'm curious about Bluefin and what kind of EGTs they're seeing.

Hmm thats very interesting. What measuring block is EGT so I can take a peek and make sure I'm not barbequing my Jetta?

Mine is a pre DPF, would that make a difference? Am a bit concerned what you say in regards to heat but I don't flog my car for prolonged periods of time and max speed i ever travel at is 120. Mainly after increased acceleration for overtaking etc..and the occasional blurt off the line at lights
