  • Help, knock noise

    Hi guys,

Noticed this weird noise today (Please don't be the DSG, I love the thing to bag it)

It's a knock that I can feel under the driver seat, right under the driver mat.

It only happens when I break as the gear drops down, and only one knock after the first drop and not on the other gear drops. It's also much more apparent when I'm on a high gear

Your feed back would be appreciated, car going to it's first service next thursday

Let me guess, 4th to 3rd?

My spanking brand new car does this...

Never from 3rd to 2nd, or 2nd to 1st though...

It's like a bit of a tap... And right as it's changing down.

I think you are right Kryten, but I've only just noticed it. At least we've got pleanty of warranty to fall back onto

Yeh I'm going to call the service dude to ask about it. Sounds like it's pretty common.

Have you only just noticed it now? I noticed it pretty much straight away after I bought it... I wasn't going to make a fuss until I'd broken it in?

        Clearly it's not just mine...

I noticed a slight knock under the drivers seat in my automatic Jetta today, but seems to be when changing up from 1st to 2nd...
          Will monitor it...
          Wonder what it could be...

I have also had this happen.

Breaking into a corner and dropping from 3rd to 2nd and the on the gas again but not heavy. There was what seemed like a long pause and the clicking sound the whole time until it the correct gear was engaged. This was the first time this happened.

I have the 60,000km service next week so I will mention it and see what happens.

Have a look under your car if you have a big aluminum heatsink with fins on driver side, someone was saying it's fuel pressure regulator cooler, so when you change gears fuel supply flow changes and might cause knocking sound

It sounds more like cogs in a gearbox clicking, not something as small as a fuel line issue...

But yeah my car does have a really big heat shield underneath it.

The 'Rap" from my fuel pump or associated sounds like a big end bearing from time to time
