  • Estimated cost to repair dent in rear wheel arch?

I left the house this morning and to my dismay I noticed a smallish dent (about 8cm wide, few mm deep ) and a few scrape marks in my rear left wheel arch.

Looks like someone did a parking hit and run on me.

Quick look and it seems to repair/replace the damaged part, they have to pull the entire left side apart, the rear arch area is connected all the way around to the front as a single piece.

Before I take it for repair quotes tomorrow, do you guys think it'd be better if I just put in an insurance claim, I think my excess will be $500

Some did exactly the same to me. Not happy Jan.

Haven't got any quotes yet, not super keen to make a claim for something fairly trivial.

It doesn't take much of a dent for the repair to exceed your excess cost. The only way to know for sure is to get a couple of quotes, just remember though, the cheapest won't always be the best

Maybe if you post up where you're located, one of the guys on the forum living in your area might be able recommend a good repairer to save you the despair of a bodgy one.

Located in Melbourne around the Northcote area

I also agree with benno though, it's an ugly looking dent, very noticable, but yet it's very trivial damage.

And I've already decided to load off Krudd's handout to pay for other expenses I made (namely the aftermarket GPS head unit in the car)

Obviously the lawyer wasn't on Mr Krudds gift list

Had this happen to me too... What is it with people running into Golf's?
Got a quote for about 1600 that is to respray the rear bumper and the wheel arch - with this, he said they have to join the paint in the roof gutter as it is one panel and this means $$... I'm claiming..

I noticed that today too. I thought it was bad enough the rear wheel arch area is connected to the top and lower portions of the car that run to the front, but the fact that it's connected to the roof as well???

I'm going to get a quote on Monday morning, the labor cost is the killer since they have to take so many things apart just to fix that little area.

I got quotes around $1,400 to fix a ding in my RS' front mudguard (got run into while I was shopping ). The new panel was only $300, the rest was for matching paint on the surrounding panels (and the huge amount of labour removing refitting all the trim and stuff to allow respraying).

Get a few quotes, that will let you know what you are up for. Don't forget, it isn't just the excess that will cost you, you will probably be paying increased premiums for the next x years unless you can claim it off someone else. Insurance can be quite tricky.

Yep, that's why I'm not super ken to make a claim. Never have so far. I guess those 'rating one for life' deals only apply if you stay with the same company for life after you make your first claim or something like that?

My ding is just that, no paint reqd. I should contact one of those paintless dent removal fellas.

I got a quote this morning for 15-1600 to fix the dent and respray the sides and roof.

They said with metallic paint they can't just respray a patch.

I'm with RACV and I'm on rating 1 for life, and I'm only 25, so I don't think the claim hurts my premiums, just my pocket.

Wow the same thing happened to me as well where someone dented my rear wheel arch in a hit and run.. I didnt think it would cost upwards of $1000 though

The damage on mine doesn't *look* too bad , so I'm wondering if they can't panel beat the dent and respray the whole panel? Maybe I'll post up photos later...

post a picture of the damage. i'd pay the 500 excess and take it to a good panelbeater who isnt just going to bog up the dent.

I said in my earlier post it wouldn't take too much of a dent to get the price of a quote to pass the excess cost

I agree with Mischa though, pay the $500 excess and get a decent repair job done the first time, if you try a cheaper alternative you'll probably regret it
