  • Under Warrentty repairs

Ok, So i've decided not to purchase the extended warrenty for my 06 TFSI Jetta... would love to, but under a few circumstances, i just cant afford it.

Im planning to drop it by at the dealer to get everything checked, to hopefully, spot anything that needs to be repaired or replaced under warrenty... has anyone done this before, what should i be paying attention to and more so.. it wont cost anything will it?

Thanks for help gents... and ladies!

All dealers have their own prices mate. I couldn't see an inspection costing all that much as they won't actually be supplying and fitting parts or anything like that. Still if you're on a budget call them first and ask how much.

Just make sure you get a proper written report from them, not just a verbal
" Yeah, it's all good mate " response.

I would be more inclined to go to an independent VW specialist to get it checked out (since you're going to be paying for the inspection anyway). Then take it to the dealer to get fixed if necessary. Otherwise you are likely to end up with a "she's right mate" response.

Good advice! And tell them to pick it to bits with a fine tooth comb. The dealer won't give a flying you know what if you get them to do it as they'll just let it slide knowing it's easy money for them once it's out of warranty.
I used to be indecisive - now I'm just not sure....

Hence why I suggested a written report, let's face it we all know that even an independent won't always pick up everything, but at least if the dealer does it and you have a report which says that all is OK and something does goes bad not too far down the out of warranty track, then at least you may have some room for negotiation with repair costs. If it's an independent report and they miss something, tough luck Either way, unless the dealer is a generous, decent one (which are few and far between) the chances of them warranting any major repairs outside of warranty will be slim. Picky, niggly little things like rattles etc...... you'll be lucky if they'll fix them even whilst it's in warranty.

Also find someone nearby with Vag Com and check your car for error codes. Handy to walk into a dealer with!

Nothing like KNOWING what they need to find, and letting them know you know up front. I've been helping a local lad who is in a similar situation get a few relatively minor faults sorted, that the good ol' dealer had been playing dumb about. Depends on your relationship with the dealer.

Don't get the inspection done by the dealer! I had one done by the dealer on my Subaru and was given the all clear. My local mechanic then did it and said "needs a new power steering pump, has 2 oil leaks, needs a new set of lower control arm bushes, and I'd hit them up for new carpets as well"......

                      All replaced under warranty.

I had a similar experience with an '06 Forester, but didn't you know that according to Subaru the majority of their problems are normal for the car.
