Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Well ya sold me. I'll pay that extra 3kg for that sorta flexibility. Thumbs up.

I took the spare tyre and tools out this evening. Easiest 20kg low-risk weight loss the car will ever go on.

I should have weighed everything before I started modding it..

The way I figure it, the brakes dumped a load of weight (the Brembos are super light compared to OEM), but the APR exhaust probably added a bit.

I just can't bring myself to strip the trim though. It's just not worth it. Even taking out the bootliner just seems wrong.

I'll just get the battery and eat vegis for 6 months. That's gotta be good for a few more kilos.... Put away those M&Ms fatboi

Nah.. The trick is to add kw AND reduce weight as well! haha...

I've gone about as far as I can on the kw side, short of putting in a stage 3, so now it's on a diet....

I look at it on the bright side, the expensive part has been done!

Unless I get those expensive BBS wheels, that is.....

But that was with nothing plugged in wasn't it? It will be interesting to see how the optima goes with the drain in the golf compared to the standard battery.

... But it wasn't fully charged either, I think that you need to buy the optima and the other battery to compare them yourself or if you know about somebody who put the optima battery in the Golf and it didn't start after a couple of days standing, just let us know.
I know that Optima Yellow top battery will start up the golf after months of standing.
Here is the current drawn from the battery after the engine in 2.0L TDI Golf is switched OFF and the car is locked. In the first picture you can see the spike up to the ½ of the vertical scale, the current draining from the the battery is 25A, it was when I turned the lights ON and cycled the ignition ON, OFF (engine wasn't started). Than I locked the car. You can see that immediately after the car is locked that the current draining from the battery goes down and it stays around 25mA (0.025A) - second picture.
I used DC current clamp and the graphing multimeter, the scale says volts but it is Amps.

Here is a neater solution that also strips 1.8kg out of the car by removing the battery tray completely. Deka battery ETX18L
