Guys, for several months now the factory alarm fitted to my GTI has been false alarming. This seems to only happen during the day (fortunately) but is starting to become annoying. The problem is very intermittent - once every 2-3 weeks on average. The car is usually parked just outside my office window (under cover) and has only false alarmed twice over the last couple of months. The other occasions have been at customers premises (in their car parks) and a couple of times at undercover shopping centre car parks, where it's actually been sounding as I walked back to the car or the flashers were blinking (indicating that it had been sounding). I never leave the windows down and there is nothing loose or dangling in the cabin. The manual doesn't give much info about operation (apart from the basics) and there doesn't seem like any "memory" function that can tell you what actually tripped the alarm (eg door, bonnet, movement sensor, etc) As with most intermittent problems, it's going to be an uphill battle to demonstrate it to the dealer. Are these alarm events stored / retrievable with Vagcom ?

For a period of say a month press the button on the B pillar to disable the internal sensors and the tow protection. If it doesn't alarm then you can narrow it down to one of these two areas and give the dealer something more to go on.website: www.my-gti.com

Thanks Guy, I bought VCDS from you a few months ago, now's my chance to do something more useful than setting a few features and browsing around. (It's just false alarmed again - twice in one day now, so something must be about to fall over)2008 5 Door GTI, DSG, Anthracite, Bluetooth, iPod, Tint
