Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Car wash

Hi, just curious as to where you go to wash your car. I haven't washed the GTI yet but I take my Subaru Liberty to a local Magic Hand Carwash and they do a pretty good job, at least I haven't seen any scratches added by using them.

I have never used one of those self serve wash places but am thinking that would be better. However I would only go there to use their water and I would bring my own washing detergents, chamois, car mitts etc. Do these places get annoyed if you do this?

    Thanks.

I brought my own car wash fluids to a Car Savers and only used their water. The guy told me off about it and said using my own chamois and/or cloths are fine, but we can't use buckets of soap + water to wash

I wash my own. The (almost) 16 year old daughter helped out and we had it washed, dried and waxed in about an hour.

I suspect she will use this against me when she wants to drive it.

It's very bad timing to buy a new car the month before the 16 year old gets her L plates

Naah, you've finally got some real leverage (I believe that is a rare commodity with teenagers these days)

          You're are right of course.

I really must learn to take more control.

That said, the appointment to get the L's is scheduled for next week.

Except you used Turtle Wax gear. Gawd I hope that was sponsored. Edit: Just reached the end, and realise it was. I do like the series and hope you are getting well rewarded!

We had another sponsor of the products that we 'usually' use that pulled out a day before the shoot. (Well when I say pulled out I mean we told them we were not going to work with them because they were making ridiculous demands - like bringing their lawyers to our shoot)

Great product : People were idiots.

We got in touch with Turtle Wax who had seen the show and within 2 hours we had 3 couriers arriving at Mighty Mods HQ with everything they could get together for us in the time. They're a really great bunch of guys.

It is more a 'mainstream' product but for most applications is really good.
