  • Golf GTi tailgate query

I have had a rattle from the rear for some time now-the dealer has been unable to help.I think I have narrowed it down to the the striker pin for the tailgate lock. When pushed mine rocks back and forth. I have pulled of the trim and the pin is embedded in a rubber dam which the dealer says is normal- but with the give in the pin may be the cause of my hatch rattle.I was wondering if other GTi's have striker pins that move and if this is normal?
    Thanks

Mine had a rattle too - but eventually I tracked it down to a loose bit of spring wire inside the tail light. Found it by pulling out all the bulbs and sticking my finger inside and feeling around (careful, it's sharp in there).

The rattle drove me mad as it was intermittent The stealer replaced the whole lamp assembly. Might be worth a check on yours...

Hi mate, it's a common fault with the lamp assemblies in the tailgates on Golf 5s.

Your VW dealer should replace it under warranty for you.
