  • MKV interior bashing?

Hi, as a new owner of a MKV GTI I am surprised to hear so much interior bashing. I seems of good quality to me, a little rattle can be heard from the centre dash vent when driving over bumps which I'm sure can be fixed by the dealer (i'll probably mention it on my first seervice unless it gets worse before hand) but apart from that all seems very good.

Now I admit I haven't seen a MK IV (being new to the VW world) so I cannot compare. Was the previous gen better?

Compared to my MY05 Subaru Liberty Premium (same price as GTI), I would say that the VW interior is on par or better, it definetly looks better to my eyes, more modern. The only negative about the interior is that you could say it is a bit plain and the colour blends in too much with the leather seats but overall I like it and the brushed aluminium strips give it a classy look IMO. BTW I love the steering wheel, feels perfect.

Interested to hear your thoughts on this.

The MkIV was probably the best Golf so far. It really was very very nice inside, and the MkV by comparison feels cheap.

Yes the MkV interior is probably better than all of it's competitors, but in comparison to the previous version, it does feel cheap.

My 1 week old Golf pacific has the same problem as yours, it seems come from left-top of my head while driving. I don't know can dealer fix it, thus my solution is turn on the radio
I will definitely mention this next week when the dealer will try to fix some scratches on the bonnet. These scratches comes with the new car

Ohhh so i'm not the only one.. I came out of a Mk4 Bora and even though the head unit looked after market (in a way it was), it had such a sturdy and solid feel to it.

Not saying that my Mk5 Jetta is any different. It does feel solid and the quality seems to be good. But it simply has a different feel to it.

          my friend has a mk4 gti and i have a mk5 pirelli

the mk4 has a very plush interior and his has the recaros. he has an excellent steering wheel from factory though ive never been a fan of woodgrain trim. i think there may have been some rattles but that would only be due to age.

the mk5s interior is hot. the pirelli seats are awesome but i find access to the rest of the car a pain as i sit so low and the seats are quite snug. having said that my glovebox houses just my gps and nothing else as its hard to get stuff whilst sitting.

in terms of interior bashing, my only gripes were the small space near the ciggy lighter and the depth of the center console drink holders. build quality is great, instruments and dials easy to reach and use, though i still think the ac/heating in the mk5s are pretty crap in terms of cooling and controlling temperature.

The MKIV interior is quite plush, but I am quite happy with the textured rubber on the MKV. IMO it makes the interior look more 'serious' (not that I would complain if it was more like the MKIV). Also very happy with the seats.

            My two cents worth...

unfortunately rattles and squeaks are a common problem in mk5s and the bad news is they get worse. such a shame because on first impressions the interior seems very well designed and put together.

my mums peugeot 307 has NO rattles what so ever and its 2 years older and its FRENCH. i cant tell you how much the interior rattles shiit me and i have spent lots of time trying to chase them down. only problem is once one is sorted another one comes along.

best advice is to turn the music up and ignore it

Louder music makes mine rattle more... the driver's door trim (the silvery bit under the window) rattles and it is worse the more doof doof the music is. If I push on it the rattle stops.

I also seem to have the same problem intermittently with the passenger side + the centre A/C vents rattle when the temperature is right and the moons have aligned.

I have a vibration from music on the drivers side. I thought it was the B pillar, but I'll try the door trim.

After 39 months I have no rattles in my Mk5 GTI. I am very happy with my Golf but I do like the soft dash in the Mk6!!!!
