  • GTI wheel suggestions?

    Hi all,

I need to get some 17" wheels and tyres for my new mkV GTI. Can anyone recommend either: a supplier (in Melbourne northern suburbs), or a particular model or brand of wheel (or one to avoid!).

Or does anyone want to sell theirs?

    Thanks.
    Unblvbl.

Try and find some hectik ful sik bru who has replaced the nice rims on their Audi or other VW and go for them.

I love alot of the rims available on the Audis when you get the RS sports package things and also some of the optional VW wheels are great looking too.

The VW/Audi rims are very nicely made and finished - much better than the aftermarket asian crap which you see alot of. I reckon genuine items also help you keep your resale value (and saftey..seen way too many cheaply cast alloy wheels which have failed under normal operating conditions like potholes).

I've got a set of GTI wheels with 9000km on them I'm about to sell, only problem is that I'm in Brisbane and shipping would cost a bit.

I'd put money on these be fakes, they don't even have the VW logo in the photo.

I'd have to agree with Yom on this one, for instance I reckon the stock Passat rims look great. If you're patient I'm sure a set of suitable sized rims will pop up in Melbourne, as posting rims ain't gonna be cheap as Mav has mentioned.

I'd recommend doing a bit of research on Tyrerack to find a make of tougher tyres to avoid the initial blowout problem you had.

I'd stick with OEM rims where possible or buy higher end after-market alloys as the cheap rubbish is going to be more prone to breakage when you hit the next pothole and the finish on them is generally really poor.

I'm not sure how much it costs to move Alloys but some of the ebayers are charging around $160 for 4 from Melbourne to Brisbane so it's not too bad.

Just pointing out that all is not as it seems on feebay

And cheap alloys may look good in a small picture but when you see them for real they're worlds apart.

But seriously, the guy has been ripped off by one tire outlet, I wouldn't want it to happen to him again!
