  • Trip Computer Resetting

    Hi all

I have MY08 GTI and am having a small problem with the trip computer. It is resetting every trip, not just when I reset it manually. Seems to be every time I swtich it off. Has anyone else had this problem. I don't think I have changed anything to cause this.

    Appreciate any advice, thanks, grant.

Thid id normsl and if you look in the manual you will see that there are 2 trip computers, one that resets and one that you manually reset.

If it is memory (1) then this resets after it has been switched off for a while (maybe after 1-2 hours), it is meant to record data for the current journey.

Memory (2) only resets if you reset it manually (or after 99.9 hours, the memory limit).

You can toggle btween the two memories by pressing the round button on the underneath of the wiper control stalk. The rocker switch controls what data is currently displayed (journey time, av fuel consumption, instant fuel consumption, average speed, distance).

The owners manual describes the different secondary functionality available through the wiper stalk.

This is interesting, I saw this rocker switch in the manual but it is nowhere to be seen in the actual car. I use the steering wheel buttons to change the display.

If you have steering wheel controls you don't have the controls on the stalk.

When you say, trip computer, what do you mean exactly? The trip counter at the lower right hand corner of the display, or the other measurements (hours, kilometres travelled) in the main display?

Youre talking about a different model car ,not the vehicle the OP is asking about.

Dont have this problem myself (resets only when I press the button).

                    First post and first question

Just purchased a 2005 Golf V TDI Comfortline.

I can't get the trip computer to change between menus. I've been doing as the user manual instructs but nothing happens.

The wiper stalk has the OK/Reset button and the end of the stalk has the up/down switches.

Is there a way of reseting the system as a whole to see if this fixes the problem or is it possible that this one is fitted for but not with.

The display visable is current time, current trip duration and outside air temp.

                    Any thoughts guys.

                    Thanks.

scroll through until you hit average fuel consumption. to the right you will see a little 1 or 2. 1 is the current trip. 2 is the average. if you don't see these keep scrolling until you see them.

Press ok. this will swap between 1 and 2. don't hold down as this will zero the trip computer - particularly the average display.

That's the problem, it wont scroll at all. Only the No1 menu is up and can't change.

                        Any thoughts guys?

I'm not sure that the comfortline had the MFD,
I have a friend with a Trendline and it doesn't have it.

Can anyone confirm this? I don't mind as I was looking at installing a ScanGauge if available for a 2005 2ltr TDI.

Doesn't your model have the function buttons on the steering wheel ? I thought all MK V Comfortlines would have this ?
