  • '08 golf pacific & edition TDi... what are the differences?

Hi all... In the market for a new new new dub. I am tossing up between the new polo tdi (09 model) or a 08 model tdi golf.
The driveaway price is slightly higher but not overly so, and the fuel consumption figures are small enough to be negligble... The golf is cheaper to insure and carservice.com.au shows its cheaper to service overall.

So, whereas last week i was steering towards the polo, im now thinking i could use that little bit of extra space with the golf (i go camping/festivals and long road trips quite often... would be nice not to be so cramped!)

What are the differences between the edition and pacific tdi golfs and is the price difference all that worth it? I wont be driving the car every day - at most twice a week - and the majority of the trips that i will do with the car will be long ones (30kms or more!)

If anyone has a copy of the 2008 golf brochure that they can email me a copy of that would be SUPER!!!

My research says go with the golf... i like the look of them better too.

Your thoughts please? (many thanks in advance!!)

The 09 polo TDI still has the 1.9L TDI, it's a much earlier diesel engine, much smaller side mount intercooler for example, and the 2.0L is a generation newer. A lot of improvements were made. On engine alone no question for me - the Golf. 74kw and 240nm vs 103kw and a whopping 320nm. A lot more grunt.

If you are after the absolute in economy, then the Polo being smaller is going to be a winner. Still, I'm scared enough of having a decent smash in the little Golf, let alone a Polo . Depends on your needs for space, power and what you like the look of best. Polo is sure alot for the bucks.

The major differences between Edition and Pacific:
      Pacific
      Auto wiper & auto headlight(Edition)manual
      Dual Zone Climate control(Edition)normal Air-conditional
      Sport seat(Edition)normal seat
      16" wheel(Edition)15

The difference between edition 1.9TDI and pacific 2.0TDI
1.9 TDI: Producing 77kW of power at 4,000 rpm and an outstanding 250Nm of torque at only 1,900 rpm.
2.0 TDI: With 103kW of power at 4,000 rpm and an enormous 320Nm of torque from as low as 1,750 rpm.

      They are totally different!!!!!!

Go the Golf, all round it's a better car with better suspension, more room, better safety rating (polo is 4 stars from memory) and you asked this in the Golf forum so what else could I say. I can email you a copy of the Golf brochures later today when I get home if no-one else has in the meantime.

I have an '08 Golf GT TDI. I parked the car yesterday to do a spot of shopping and when I returned there was a Polo parked just one space away from me and I can tell you now there is a very big difference in size. The Golf is much broader and a fair bit longer as well, a much bigger car overall and well worth the few extra $'s IMO. Especially if size is important to you

Go for the Golf,if they are going to be similar in price, the Golf is far better value.
And of course now is an excellent time to buy one...

How can you not use an Air Conditioner in Brisbane?

get the edition, it has better lookign wheels and the other things arent really that worth it. pick up some better seats from a GT or GTI wreck if you feel like it. at least that's what i would do in your position.

I find the seats in the Edition are already firm enough. They are also narrow.

Does my bottom look big in those seats?

because I dont think brisbane is ever all that hot... ever.
winding down the windows is enough for me even on the hottest days - plus air con gives me a headache

I thought the wheels looked better on the edition too... not too fussed about having schmick sports seats just something comfortable!

remember now that the new model golf is out and theres hundreds of thousands of cars unsold sitting in car yards thanks to the economic crisis, you should be able to pick yourself up a pretty damn good deal
