  • Diesel Upgrade

Hey, is there anywhere in Brisbane to get a similar (or better) power upgrade to the one that Oettinger is offering only cheaper? (Their upgrade boosts the engine to 125kw and 380nm torque). I would go for them but at $1,695 fully installed, it's worth shopping around.

    Thanks

Bluefin engine remapping uses an ECU remap for your diesel or petrol engine and delivers better performance. Engine tuning with ECU chipping for diesel and petrol engines.

the Brittish £ means it can be had for ~ $955 delivered.

For a start the local price includes GST. The bluefin is close to the $1000 customs limit and this could cost you extra when imported.

Oettinger offers local support if something goes wrong, Bluefin offer UK support.

Weigh up the pros and cons and remember that you get what you pay for. I've had experience with a handheld tune from the UK and I would never repeat the experience.

The ECU is a critical part of the car and many thousands of dollars to replace, you didn't buy the car on price so why buy the tune on price?

Also take into account your warranty, if you have any, and the simple fact the local albeit dearer suppliers have MUCH stealthier tunes. A lot of the bargain ones increase your flash counter, and anyone can then easily tell you've chipped it, and you won't have a leg to stand on if something engine related goes kaplooey. They also offer thier own purchaseable warranties!

It wasnt the actual tune that you were not happy with though, it was the flash counter incrementing when you were told it wouldnt. Correct ?

And the support. As I've said before the poor support, lack of information on the actual maps (no dynos etc all pointed to the maps being purchased from another company) and the problems with the flash counter which are still ongoing despite the many claims that it would be fixed "within weeks" every few weeks. The device IMO was too immature to release and if they had tested the unit properly they would have realised this which is a shame as it had potential. The fault lies squarely with the company that released it and they made many claims that they could not substantiate and/or that ended up being completely incorrect.

The only difference is that there are many happy customers of the company that they used whereas everyone had the same problems that I had with the other company

Ok thanks, i'm defs gonna have to way up both negs and pos. But I was driving today and realised that the Jetta is already pretty tourqey so perhaps I should just leave it the way it is.. More would be great but at that price I think my car is quickly enough.

                        MACA,
Your Jetta is great,I would NOT mess around with it,leave it stock standard, thats how it was meant to be from VW.

If you want a bit more out of a diesel, it's the old turbo rule of air in, exhaust out, but given a diesels much greater flows, it's even more important.

At LEAST pull the leaf grid out of the bottom of the airbox!

A COLD AIR pod filter, ditch the MAF grid, hook up an intercooler sprayer ala Polar or a standalone unit ( eg CryO2 ), get some exhaust work done, ditch the rear pancake muff, basically anything that helps the engine breathe. A diesel is almost always on boost, and is running turbo pressure well above a normal petrol turbo car. Gas flow is what it's all about with a diesel.

All of those mods are a red flag to the dealer and won't achieve anywhere near the power that a new mapping can do.

The flash IMO is the best way to go, for power gains for the dollar there is no better place to start, all gains from then on in go downhill fast. Plus it doesn't draw the dealers attention like mods to intake, exhaust or other mods will.

I agree too, keep it as is.
Why some people think that they know better than VW engineers? They designed the car from the scratch.
The half mechanic at the dealer will always find out that the car was tempered with should there be any need for it.
