Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

The top is actually translucent, the sensors are designed to operate under that dark coloured perspex. Shine a torch under it and you'll see what I mean. You can't tell normally as it's black behind the sensor.

I just pulled it out - mine is not connected. The wire bundle is looped and hooked under another part that I can't remove without a torx screw and mine have gone missing in the drama of moving houses... Also, the two rear tabs on the actual grille were broken off before I removed it.
The two rear tabs of the grille are removed prior to the car being assembled, they were part of the problem with the creaking from the unit. Mine were like it from the factory and others I've seen are the same.

I wonder how much of a difference it actually makes? I haven't been overly impressed with the climate control so far.
The system works even if pretty much all the sensors are not operational as it makes assumptions but it will work better with the sensors being operational.

They're intact in the pic in minigolfs thread. 2nd pic - the two tabs at the front (car front) of the grille, either side of the central tab. Mine were broken off, and the whole panel was sitting up a little at that end and just looked crappy.

Just went and pulled the dash apart to plug that bloody wire back in. PITA.

We'll see if it makes much difference... I wasn't particularly impressed with the climate control on a hot sunny Brisbane day.

Well it wasn't the sunniest, hottest day on record up here in the land of 'vegas, but I think there was a noticeable difference with the little sensor doodad plugged in.
