  • Another exhaust Question - resonator delete?

    Hi all,

Have just picked up a second hand 06 red golf gti which is stock standard. I'm having lots of fun punting this car around brissie.

But I am finding that the GTI is too quiet especially when compared to my other car - a forester XT with a 3' TBE. While the boxer sound is something I like, the GTI has more tyre noise (standard continentals) than engine or exhaust.

Rather than pay the big bucks for a TBE, for just a bit more noise has anyone deleted the middle resonator? If so how does it sound?? I don't want drone at highway speeds, just a bit more noise when gunning it.

I have searched the exhaust questions previous and haven't found an answers to this.

Well, don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure last time I looked, what you propose, is illegal. (Removing the resonator, I mean.)

I think if you do a search, you may find topics on what other people have done with their MkV exhausts.

My advice would be not to mess with it. But it's your ride. Good luck with it.

theres a whole thread about it here...

Curious if anyone locally has had their resonator deleted and what their thoughts are?

IMO its a pretty cheap mod. if you dont like it, put it back in!
im deffinately considering it for my GTI

Wouldn't you rather delete the rear pancake muff over the resonator, afterall, a resonator is there FOR drone...??

Ta, I did find those other articles helpful. I guess it is hard to determine for each individual what is the best exhaust sound and volume.

I will leave the exhaust for now and save for the APR tune. Hopefully they have there 10% off sale soon. Going to get their 6hr test downloaded in the next week or two, and see how it goes.
