  • Two R32s stolen in raid

Am posting from phone so will just paste police release:
Twelve new cars stolen from storage yard - Liverpool

    2009-02-14 12:21:05

Police from the Liverpool Local Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the theft of twelve vehicles from a holding yard this morning.

About 6am a group of 13 men entered a motor vehicle holding yard in Shepherd Street through the main gate.

The group approached three employees, assaulting them and forcing them into a vehicle.

Taking car keys the group then stole 12 cars estimated to be worth more than $500,000.

Emergency services were contacted and attended. The three employees suffered only minor injuries in the incident.

Police established a crime scene and are conducting a canvass of the area.

The vehicles taken include a blue VW Golf, white VW R32 (Golf), blue VW R32 (Golf), black Mitsubishi Lancer, grey Holden Barina and a green Holden Commodore SV6.

A white Mitsubishi Triton dual cab utility, black VW Passat, black Subaru Imprezza WRX, white Mazda 3 and a black Holden Commodore SV6 were also taken. One stolen vehicle has not yet been identified.

Police are appealing to anyone that might have information about suspicious activity in or near Shepherd Street prior to the incident to come forward.

Investigators are also keen to speak with anyone that might have seen the unregistered vehicles (no plates) travelling through Liverpool this morning.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Liverpool Police on 9821 8444 or Crime Stoppers on 1 800 333 000.

That's bad, hopefully they'll catch the culprits and deal with them appropriately. I wonder if they drew straws to see who stole what, I pity the poor sap who got the Barina

Probably already stripped of parts, with those parts going onto "repaired" wrecks that some dodgy panel beater has written off earlier or onto a "stolen" R32 that was bought back at auction after being similarly stripped.

I remember an Evo getting stolen in Perth and the owner used its sat tracking to give the cops the address.

Cops attended after I think no more than 3 hours gone and the car already had no engine, no doors , no interior trims. Those bits were GONE!.

I've seen this movie hey. What happens is the cops find all the cars, then end the end they only have 24hours to get them all.

The unidentifed vehicle is probably refered to as 'elenor'

Well other than stripping for parts.. There's no real use for them.

They can't be registered or Insured with the VIN being a hot hit for the Police..

And we all know a car with no tags is a neon sign with "PULL ME OVER" on it.

There's an update on the telegraph website:

"You could hear really high-powered cars speeding off, like really full-on driving.''

As far as the VW's are concerned I wish them luck getting genuine compliance plates made up for them in Australia, we've just been through that with Cam's Comfortline and they practically wanted blood samples from us to get them to issue the correct one to be fitted by the dealer. Of course as Golf Houso has said, once they get them out of the country and O/S it will be a whole new ball game.

Anyway, if you saw a new R32 driving down a main street in the Middle East with an Osama Bin Ladin look a like hanging out the sunroof with a machine gun would you pull them over and ask to check the compliance plate on the car ?? ..... I'll pass on that idea personally !
