The CSC2/3's have a really high treadwear rating anyway so how long they last is entirely up to your driving. The other tyres fitted stock also have a fairly high treadwear rating.
Well I'm just comparing them to the tyres I currently have, the RE050A's (which are a performance tyre) that have lasted 80,000km. Seems like I drive much more sedately than most to get them to last that long, doesn't mean there is no point getting a GTI.

That is very good distance, mate. I've never got more than 50k, and that was from a set of Dunlops that had all the wet weather grip of a pair of leather soled shoes...

Possibly you drive very smoothly & read the traffic a long way ahead.

80000km from RE050A's? Were you driving on the cross ply???? I thought I did well with mine for 48000km, a lot of 80kmh light commuting daily with high-ish pressures and frequent rotation.

That's some sedate driving then. Given you are obviously light on tyres then go for a sticky performance variant as they will still last you relatively well.

Well, I'm a bit shocked as to how surprised everyone is with the long wear I have gotten from the RE050A's. I better do some burnouts then....oh I forgot I drive a AWD 2.5i AT Liberty. I don't even check tyre pressures that frequently.

the gti puts all it power out on the front wheels. most fwd cars wear tyres at a faster rate due to the weight of the engine, steering and drive all being on the same axel thus more likely to loose traction compared to awd car driven in a similar fashion.

I had 4 new Falcons in succession before the Jetta and managed about 65-70,000 KM from the original tyres, the Jetta had RE050s on it from new and I only managed 50,000 from them. I put it down to the irresistible urge to use the great acceleration the car is endowed with, I don't spin the wheels off the mark and I don't travel at high speeds, but do love to use the grunt to accelerate quickly.

I'm curious to see sometime down the track what mileage you get out of the original tyres on the GTI

                Cheers

my mk4 2.0 did 50000kms on factory CS2s. my current mkv gti had a switch to falken 452s when i got 18s and i got 30000kms on them. just switched to yoko advan sports...can't fault them. quiet, smooth, grip. thinking i'll get 30000kms again. plus i rotate and balance my tyres every 5000kms...with regular allignments too.

I am on 30000km on my CSC2s and they are nearly due for replacement, thanks to the way I go around corners, the brakes should last a while though
