OEM tyres on GTI

Hi, just curious as to what tyres the GTI comes with? Did VW change tyres between different model year GTI's for the MkV?

These are these same tyres on my Subaru Liberty. They are fantastic tyres and last for ages.

Are tyres something I can insist on if they come with something else. I would've thought that at least all MY09 GTI's (3 and 5 door) would come with the same tyre?

Depends on what is available at the time, some tyres may be in short supply.

The CSC2/3's are the pick of the tyres they supply on the cars, they also put the Dunlop Sport on the R32.

You won't be able to specific the tyre you get, you may have been able to work something with the dealer when the car was still being made and they could have swapped the rims off another new car that arrived but it's very unlikely you could arrange that now.

As Mav said, they tend to put on whatever they have been supplied at the time. I think they keep swapping suppliers around so that they :
1 Get good prices from all their suppliers
2 Aren't locked in to 1 supplier (more flexibility if that supplier has problems)

From looking through the option codes for my Skoda I noticed one that said "Specified brand of tyre" or something similar, so it might theoretically be possible, but I bet the Oz dealers wouldn't know how to do it (and their ordering system also probably couldn't cope).

I told my dealer I didn't want Dunlops on my Octy. Of course it arrived with .... Dunlops, so they swapped them with another Octy that had Michelins. I'm happy with the Michelins (PEx2s) so far.

Well, I have ordered a GTI but forgot to ask about tyres, guess I'll find out when the car arrives, hopefully this Saturday.

Just read some reviews about these tyres and bloody hell seems like they wear out far too quickly. Might ring VW and ask if I can get different ones.

It depends how you drive.

It looks like I'll get 30,000km+ out of my CSC2s. A mate with a GTI (who goes fast in corners but generally accelerates smoothly) has 40,000km on his CSC2s. How many kms did you expect to get?

If you go to a hard compound tyre it will just break traction anyway, then the road surface will act like sandpaper & wear the tyre quickly anyway. You need a tyre that suits the car & the driving style.

Well, i've got Bridgestone Potenza RE050 tyres on my Subaru Liberty 2.5i. I have done 80,000Km (4 years) on them and they are now ready to be replaced. Can I expect to get anywhere near this with the Continentals? Maybe I just drive like a granny???

You should have RE050A (assymetric) if they are OEM Liberty.

I've come over (like so many) from Subaru myself. The most mileage I've ever heard of from RE050A is about 40,000km with the average being 25,000km.

If you got 80,000km out of your RE050As then you'll get about the same from any of the OEM VW stuff (RE050A are a great tyre though)

Why would you want to add a longer wearing tyre to the GTI when VW fit a high performance tyre for a reason? You may as well buy the 2.0l non turbo rather then drive a GTI with long life tyres

The CSC2/3's have a really high treadwear rating anyway so how long they last is entirely up to your driving. The other tyres fitted stock also have a fairly high treadwear rating.
