  • MKV MSD displays "Active"

    Hi,

recently I've replaced my MFD2 with an AVIC-F900BT. After doing so, my MFD was in the default mode of trip computer. I stupidly changed it to Radio (or Audio - can't remember what it is now). - what ever gives the radio station read out.
Now all it does is display the word "Active".

The rocker buttons on the end of the wiper stalk now do nothing. Nor does the button underneath the stalk.

Short of reconnecting the old MFD2 head unit to get the stalk button functionality back, does anyone know how I can fix this?
    - I also had a dealer look at it when the car had its 75k service today, they don't seem to be able to assist with this

    Thanks,
    Greg.

You need to program your can gateway with a diagnostic tool. Basically you tell it "No Radio / No Navigation" to stop it happening again.

      Thanks Guy...

Do you know anyone in Sydney who could do this for me, or failing that, what would I need to do it ? - are there any cheaper places to get the interface cable from than www.ross-tech.com - if I get it from there, will this one suffice ? http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/Micro-CAN.html

      Thanks,
      Greg

Any VW specialist (with Vag Com) should be able to do it for you. If you are going to keep your car for a while, Vag Com is a great investment. Micro Can would work fine for that sort of stuff!

Hi Greg...Speaking from experience, the cable is great value. I think it cost me around $600 delivered from Guy, and it's been invaluable in checking codes and knowing what is going on with my car. Plus, if i do any mods like LED lights or new HU(which is a plan), then I can pull the codes, make the changes and all from the comfort of my own home.

But, as Guy said, if you're going to own your car for a while, it's worth it, else, put a call out to someone else in sydney that has one. Worst case it will cost you a few bucks to get them to help you, or even better they'll do it for free. Just make sure you do your research first on what you need to do, so you are boy scout prepared!

Thanks for the replies and help

Thanks for your advice Guy and BJ

I ended up swapping the head units so I could get my dash back - it took about 15mins to R&R the pioneer and swap it with the Blaupunkt head unit.
Thanks to Guy for the advice on finding a VW specialist (which I managed to) - it didn't even dawn on me ! I may end up getting this cable anyway - now I know of an Aus supplier.
Now I've just got issues with the radio aeriel booster - it has 2 inputs, but only boosts one (from the roof antenna I think - the white plug). Also mounting the gps antenna under the dash tray isn't the brightest idea - it hides it, but I lose signal in non cloudy conditions - time to move it to the windscreen me thinks. Both of these are getting looked at in 9 hours' time anyway (it's midnight)
