Assets: Punchy and smooth petrol engine, class-leading refinement, rides well, good drive.

Drawbacks: Price premium, uninspiring looks.

Verdict: The pick of the Golf range.

Mabey put this in the MK6 section?

So is it a turbo only engine now in this model?? I can't see a 1.4 turbo only being "punchy"....
