  • Hands Free Phone Kit for Jetta

    Folks,
Recently purchased an 06 TDI Jetta which has been chipped, it was a great buy, i love the grunt that the oiler has without having to visit the servo every week fantastic car.

However I now need to fit a hands free kit for the mobile, had a Nokia SK7 kit in the Euro but I have been told if I fit the Parrot kit I will get full functionality via the steering wheel controls, which the Nokia does not do.

Would really appreciate any info on the right kit to buy, Im in Adelaide but I guess I could order from one of the interstate co's if there was no one here?

    Cheers

    Neilm,
I tossed up getting the handsfree kit installed in my newly acquired R32 but they wanted $650 (installed - VW Central Coast). I have had handsfree in a Honda Accord Euro and a Lexus RX 350 (they both came with it installed along with Sat nav).

The R32 was in the yard and not ordered - no options choice other than already fitted e.g. sunroof - when I bought it so I decided on trying a Blueant Supertooth 3 Handsfree ($105 delivered). I use a LG TU550 mobile for business.

All I have to do is press the mute button on the wheel and say "Activate" (it is voice activated) and it answers a call. Unless you have a satnav unit fitted and want access to "phone book" facilities or you make a large volume of calls from the car, I don't see the need fore the added expense.

It is also transportable if you have access to another car e.g. hire car when I go on business trips interstate.

At the end of the day it's your call (no pun intended!!)

I did the same - a BlueAnt does a pretty good job and is transferrable between cars as well and can handle up to 4(or 5?) handsets, so family members can use it too.

I have the Parrot 3200LS in both my cars and I highly recommend it. It has a separate screen and control buttons and doesnt integrate with the steering wheel phone button but it doesnt bother me.

You can get an adapter cable that makes the installation almost plug and play (need to connect acc wire as its not in the stereo connector).

This kit is better than the factory bluetooth kit offered by VW.

                Neil,
I bought it from exeltek in Victoria (www.exeltek.com.au) in November. I normally do a search on www.staticice.com.au and www.shopbot.com.au or, if desperate, www.shopferret.com.au to find the best price on gear like that. Hope this helps

**** Smiths have the Blueants for about $120. I use one when I am not driving the Mk5 and find it excellent. My partner had one and only needed to recharge the battery once last year as well.

I make a ton of calls while driving for work, and again, can't rate the Blueant highly enough. Great sound and the best thing, NO ECHO. I've had any number of genuine kits, but often they had been echo-ing pretty badly.

I've not had anyone complain with the Blueant, and even had people think I'm in the office in the diesel at 100kph. It's technology is amazing. Occasionally you'll get a "quiet" call and it's a bit of a challenge, but overall I'm just stoked with mine.

Make sure you don't get the very first version though, they made major upgrades to supertooth II ( what I have ) and I'm, sure the 3 is even nicer.

Oh yeah and does the battery EVER go flat?? I charge mine about once a fortnight, just in case!

I got a Jabra SP700 and am very happy with it

http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/review...a/sp700/251514 (oh, the review says incoming voice too soft, but mine seems just right - volume control can make it too soft and too loud on demand)

Got mine from the US, but I think Harley Normal (Harvey Norman) now sells them in Australia (otherwise check www.staticice.com.au)
