  • 2000km trip .. wonderful

Went for a trip to Melbourne via great ocean road and back via ballarat.

Was very happy with the fuel which clocked in on average as 7.5 l / 100 km. I did a test for 300km with the airconditioner off and then turned it on for another 300km and it didn't affect the fuel consumption. I know there was a thread here about airconditioners, and I had a Toyota and yes airconditioning was good, but it also from my testing there added another 1 - 2 litres per 100 km!

Also on the way back .. temperature in Adelaide was up around 42-43 degrees. The airconditioner worked fine in auto mode (albeit at 110 km/hr) with me adjusting it to recirculate only when the temperature on the read out reached 44.5 (I would say the temp is out by a few degrees). Saw a lot of cars on teh side of the freeway back in and was interested to note that the majority were holden commodores - and not necessarily old ones!

All in all a very comfortable trip. I felt less fatigued in the Golf than I had with other cars for the same trip and considering all this was done in the space of three days I felt very happy with the fuel economy, performance and comfort of the Golf

    Nice one Phil.

A few months after we got our GTI we did a reasonably long road trip. Cbr-Melb-GOR-Mt Gambier-Adl-Hay Plains-Cbr. It was a doddle. Did a similar trip in our old Mk4 GTI too, although the other way round that time.
