Oil Temp/Pressure Gauge install

Has anyone fitted an oil pressure or temprature gauge to an MK5 GTI? If so where abouts did you place the sensors for the gauges??

Sounds a bit tricky. Would proably require some drilling and tapping I would think. Why do you want them? These are modern cars, don't reckon you really need them..... And where are you thinking of mounting them?

Yeah, Andrew.. I see what you mean. But I'm a gauges man from way back and like to know what my engne's doing so I see Hilton's point too. Having a diesel, it would be nice to know what the charging circuit is doing so a voltmeter would be good, and an oil temp. gauge is excellent for judging whether or not you're warming the engine enough on the trips that you do.
MFDs are fantastic things, but I often wonder if when concentrating on my driving I would notice one of the warning icons come on...or are they accompanied by a chime?
And where the hell would you put gauges in a mk 5 Also, looking at the 2.0TDI underbonnet, phrases like, "plumber's nightmare" and "quart in a pint pot" come to mind.

Yes. A bit of a tricky one Hilton k. Spose you could mount them above the cubby in the centre console. I hate gauges up the pillars! You would have to drill into the oil filter housing I think. For the water you need to go directly into a coolant area, maybe a steel pipe? I haven't looked at mine to see where. I will try to get time to investigate......

Didn't mean water temp, cars already got one of them, was after oil temp. Will be doing some track work with the car a want to make sure its running at its best

As for mounting, was thinking something like this (see attached photo) in a 2 or 3 pod design that goes above the centre console. At the moment Defi have released a series of 'American Only' blue gauges http://www.nippon-seiki.co.jp/defish...br/br_top.html that suit the GTI colour perfectly (see attached photo) i'm sure someone will import them here if needed

It's just got me stumped on how and where to put the electrical sensors for the oil gauges

Love the pod mounted on top of the dash. Hate A pillar pods as they further restirict forward vision.

Guarrantee that I will pull the cover on my motor over the weekend to check out where to mount some sensors. Since my trip to Melbourne I have been playing catch up at work with early early morning starts between 4.20/ 5,30 everyday! Hate it! So let me check it out over the weekend. Anything should be possible with fitting senders!

All gauges have an electrical supply even boost gauge, although the boost sensor would be very easy to instal going from the diagrams. This really has me stumped surely somebody out there has to of done this before.

Hi guys, oil temp is good to have in any car that you drive hard, or even on the weekend through the twisties. Lets you see how hard the engine is working and if to stop

I'll get one installed in my car when time permits.

With my old Golf race car, with an external oilcooler and TDI radiator the temps would go sky high in a 10 lapper. Late last year in one particular race the water was at 120degrees and the oil at 130! I had to shortshift ect to try and cool the thing.

Thanks for those links!! Hot the 2Ltr FSI engine has those pluged holes, would make it ALOT easier
