Howdy...
We've had our MY08 Jetta for just on twelve months and are back in for yet another horn replacement. This is the second time the lower tone has blown and I'm more than a little cheesed (we've also had the bluetooth handsfree unit replaced twice and an airbag sensor).
Each time the horn has blown has been under heavy braking whilst avoiding some silly person
that has tried to run into us. In each case the horn started then just sort of fizzled. Its definitely the horn itself, but for the life of me I cannot work out what the heck has happened. Horns aren't really high tech devices and I've never heard of one frying in car less than a year old before.
Has anyone else experienced this and/or knows of what the solution is? Our dealer was absolutely non-plussed and just said "...book it in and we'll take a look". Call me cynical but I don't think having to take the car back five times for electrical faults in the first twelve months as being remotely normal.
I couldn't see whether the horns were directly wired or via a relay, but I would think with twin horns running either side of the engine bay its pretty likely a relay is involved... wondering whether this may be the culprit. I've got a gut feeling there maybe something a little more sinister as its happened under circumstances where I'm sure that the ABS was active (both instances were vehicles trying to turn in front of us at 60km/h).
Any suggestions would be appreciated....
Cheers.
