Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Advice needed, anyone with a lease car had it tuned / flashed

    Hey Guys,

I want to tune (APR) my car but i want it to come from my lease (maintenance portion which is pre tax $ vs me paying out of my pocket). I believe this is quite easy to do if you get it done when you buy the car as they just say the car cost x amount. and the lease is based on this cost.

I usually get any work performed and then the lease company works out the payment with dealer and my salary package is charged. My question is has anyone tried to do it with a tune and how did you go about doing it?

    Cheers

you could always pay for it and then try to claim it back?

I looked into a novated lease but dont drive enough KM's/yr to make it worth it, was better value for me to have the loan paid off pre tax and then claim service costs/fuel manually.

If they can claim it as a service/maintenance you should be fine to do it.

I would say it's extremely unlikely any fleet company would allow this. You would need to convince the other 2 parties if it's novated. Worth a shot though. They can only say no

a tax accountant would deem an APR reflash as a capital enhancement rather than an operating cost, hence you would not be able to claim it as an expense, and furthermore you would be exposed to even more FBT.

I looked at this as my Polo GTI is on salary sacrifice through Smart Salary. I was told you can claim back anything bought for the car so long as the car came with it in the first place.

The Flash Tune I couldn't get a difinative answer for as the car has an ECU, but the the Sostware was a gray area. Why don't you take the car to an APR dealer to get serviced, and have the Flash tune added as part of the service costs??
