I'm writing this on my iPhone ATM. My engine oil warning light came on about 10 minutes ago 10:10pm Sunday and I'm at the shell petrol station wanting to top up my oil briefly. What weight oil should I use? My car is a vw jetta tfsi turbo petrol. 5w 30? 5w 40? Please respond asap. SOS

If they don't have any use a synthetic oil that is 5w/30 (or around there) and get an oil change done at your dealer later.
Also in the glovebox is users manual which tells you most of this.website: www.my-gti.com

hey guys
thanks for the info! u guys saved my ass...
i went to shell and bought shell helix 5w 40 fully synthetic oil which was a 502.00 VW according to the label at the back
made it home safe and sound
but just 1 q. i bought my jetta last year april. now, it says that the first service is on 15,000kms but I was just wondering, is this normal? why such a big time between services? isnt it normally every 10K kms? and also, 15K may be the first service, but do u change the oil twice for every 1 service coming up? (e.g i mean, say if u had a service at 15K kms, would u do one at 7K kms and then when u go in for ur service, do another oil change then, etcetera?)

Dont worry re service intervals. If its ok for VW warranty then its ok for you.
Me I change halfway.
what YOU should do is CHECK under the bonnet every week.

It's your money, and your engine. Depends on whether you do many short trips, drive in lots of traffic or flog your car regularly. If you do, then this is classified as "severe driving conditions" and requires more frequent changes than every 15,000 Km.
Also, "VW 504.00/507.00 approved" is the important oil specification, not 5W-40 or whatever. AFAIK 504 is a higher (better) spec than 502, and more suited to a longer oil change interval.2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).
