HI All,

I know there have been several threads on this subject, which I have just looked through, but I couldn't find anything recent. Looking at getting another fully working remote and key fob as the son's '07 Comfortline, I have just found out, only has one key and remote with it. I know from what I have read that they are expensive, just wondering if there are any cheaper (guaranteed to work) alternatives available yet. I need to wait until the car arrives by carrier next week so I can open the remote and check the code and the mhz. Just looking for the cheapest and best way of going about it.

Thanks Maris, I had read this one, I might talk to the salesman I bought the GT from and see if he can get me a another a bit cheaper, after seeing the amount of messing around that gregozedobe had to go to, it might be a lot less stressful to just bite the bullet and pay the stealer for it.

Not meaning to highjack the thread, but for the information of all, I wanted to replace my keys as I had broken both the loops (that attach to the rest of your keys). Don't ask how - it's a long story!

These loops may look like metal, but are in fact some sort of crap plastic material. Anyhow - since I don't need the key part, or the circuit board part, I eventually found this on UKeBay:

I've read about a few ways of adding a new loop to replace a broken one, but this would probably give the neatest end result - and end up costing about $AU 30.20 plus a little bit of work to put the old electronics in the new case.

If you are going to use the new key half as well don't forget to (carefully) remove the transponder (immobiliser chip or RFID) from the old one and glue it in the new one. The key blade is held in with a small pin near the pivot point of the flip out mechanism (and trust me, those small pins are very easy to lose ).

And because you are using all the current components, no programming needed.

I've ordered 2 new ones, so I'll let you know how it all goes. Depending on how well the plastic's texture matches will depend on whether I use the whole new unit or not.

I've noticed that a lot of suppliers are following Amazon's lead and making extra profit on shipping costs, particularly when you order multiple articles. I'll predict that the actual postage costs for the two key shells will be around 4-5 GBP (they weigh bugger all and will easily fit in one small padded envelope).

USA shipping costs took a big hike last year, USPS removed the economical air mail option for heavier articles. It wasn't so bad when the aussie dollar was flying high, but it really bites these days - it can cost more for freight than the actual purchase.

It's entirely to do with feebay's fees and charges. They don't pay fees on the postage costs.

It's really pretty simple though.

You can pay $20 for the item and $30 postage - total $50 or pay $50 for the item and $5 postage - total $55 (the extra $5 for feebay's fees).

And you're also paying for the handling and packing.
