I haven't had any problems with the unit itself - if you read through the threads on golfmkv you will see a couple of people have, but it mainly appears to be poor soldering on the supplied wiring loom/iPod cable. I haven't had any software problems.
I have made a couple of improvements, such as relocating the Bluetooth microphone to the OEM position next to the map lights, and connecting up a small circuit to match the button lighting to the rest of the car. Most people wouldn't bother - I'm just a bit of a perfectionist. I've also relocated the GPS antenna to the windscreen above the mirror (in the shaded part), so that it is not obvious to passers by but still provides good reception.
Since the above post it has now also become clear that Waywell are not actually the manufacturer. It is manufactured by chinese company Audio Sources, their model number is AS-7301.

Presently only volume, mute & the phone button work. There is supposed to be a revised version coming out soon where the right hand side buttons will be able to be used for changing tracks etc. Not sure if this will also mean song titles etc. in the MFD, but the GPS instructions definately wont appear there. If you want full integration an RNS-510 is the only way to go. (But it's $$$)

There seems to be a new and improved model available, it has addressed all the silly issues with an external mic and also re-location of the ipod port to the rear.
