Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • WHOOOHOOOOO!!!! (New) Golf GTI Time!

    Hey all!

Have been lurking here and GMKV for a few weeks now after deciding to find a GTI, and the search is over! I've managed to talk a dealer down to a price I'm happy with on a 07 Candy White GTI with DSG and leather!

So going to take it for a drive maybe tomorrow afternoon and will be looking for any issues or things for them to suss out before I take it, but as its only done 27k thus far I think it'll be fine still, going to check the DSG on a nice big hill, CV's, a good going over the paintwork and going to push them to do the 30k service before I take it off them.

Still I'm super excited and planning my first 3 mods (RSB, Chup, ???) which will all hopefully be done after I get back from a trip to thailand! cant spend all my saving money before I go

So when I take it for a drive is there anything in particular I should be looking for? Rattles near the rear tail lights? issues with DSG shuddering? I'll be checking the basics but figure you guys know these things inside out so will listen to any advice you care to share!

Anyway, Greetings from a soon-to-be GTI Owner

Edit: Talking rubbish, so deleted it.

It's still under warranty, so I'd be most concerned with how well the interior / body has been looked after rather than mechanical issues. Personally I haven't had any rattles in my 07 CW GTI, hopefully you'll be just as lucky!

i though services were every 15k? if they are 12.5k I'll make sure I check the books before I commit.

Its been looked after really well, there isn't a scuff on it anywhere, as they say... showroom! leather isn't even slightly worn. I cant wait!!

You're right it is 15000km, I can't believe I got that wrong - I have been at work too long today (brain drain). Ignore what I said, you're on the right track!

Careful you don't pay too much mate. I've seen brand new GTIs with DSG being sold DRIVE AWAY for 42990 in these parts.

A year or two old one should be low-mid 30s based on that pricing, and in tip top shape to boot.

              Really? wow good deal, excellent.

I've been busting, waiting for mine to turn up. Hopefully not too much longer. The car yard lent me a hyundai accent in the meantime..... erk.

Oh.... Well the paper work isn't signed just yet....

Ticketed was 39,990 when it was first in the yard, then dropped to 36990, and now is at 34990 not inc stamps.
Will enquire RE: new fleet pricing tomorrow and see what they offer, but I dont want to buy new as the deperication will kill me.

34990 plus stamp duty? What's that, about 36.5k or more?

Stuff that mate, go new, in my opinion anyway.

yeah, $36.5 drive away basically... but I'm getting a bit better of a deal than that. A new one was priced in the vicinity of $42-3 with leather but its still just a little to much over my budget.

Should tell Jon-Gti to buy a new one

Fair enough... If it were me though, I'd stretch it. A new car is one of lifes greater pleasures. Sure you pay a bit (lot) in depn, but if you intend on keeping it a long time, the price is soon forgotten.

So it is the same one then??

Haha, I'm really just going for a look to make up my mind 110%, as I don't want leather. I currently drive a Polo GTI.

yeah its the same one, I've been looking for ages now and this one has been sitting in their yard for a few months... So its time to talk turkey and get the deal done.

There is a nice white cloth DSG at the goldcoast for good money at a dealer in south tweed, or in the yard in bris there is a cloth manual as well. I started out not looking for leather but it seems pretty nice, and its only summer for 3 months of the year

Still a good bit of relief your not actually looking to buy it I was getting worried for a little while
