  • MK V Comfortline or Sportline ?

    Hey Guys,

Looking at buying another Golf for my son (his money not mine) have been looking at a few 2006 MK V 2.0 TDI manual Comfortline and the same in a Sportline model, just wondering if other than what I have read (window regulators, a/c compressor issues) what other things should I be looking for faults in. Whatever we get will have some factory warranty but I'd like to know if there are any other issues / faults to look for (other than the obvious ie clutch, brakes etc...) which may not be covered by warranty. Other than the dual zone a/c and sports suspension what other features does the Sportline have over the basic Comfortline.

    Thanks
    Russ

    Sportsline Top Car

    Russ

I had the golf sportline 06 and it was a fantastic car.I never had any problems with it,no warranty issues. The differences between the models the sportsline has colour coded door handles and side strips, sporty front seats and much nicer interior. The wheels are 16inch for the sportsline and 15 inch for the comfortline. The handling was great too.Unfortunately it wasn`t sporty enough for me so i upgraded to the golf gti.If its for your young bloke the sportsline might be the way to go.Depending on his tastes.

    cheers

    Luke

I'd be wary of anything in the 103 kw TDI that had ever been chipped, as it seems the few turbo's that have let go have been the 103 that doesn't have the mods especially in the heat handling department the 125 kw has.

Just a possibility with a "sportsline" model, where some young pup has owned it.

This is one owner on lease by a lady who works for a VW dealer in Canberra so I doubt that it would have been chipped. I spoke to the service dept. where all the servicing has been done since new and it has been regularly serviced every 7,500 k's. It has only had minor warranty work carried out which was replacement of rear calipers (something to do with the handbrake mucking up) a couple of other small repairs as well but nothing major, other than that it all appears good.

Sportlines are worth every dollar over a comfortline - a quick test drive lets you know that.

I think he should be friggen happy with ANY of the options, considering my first car came with bald crossply tyres, worn recirculating ball steering ( talk about vague ) and if it kicked into 4th on the auto, it actually slowed down.....

Now that sounds like a bargain !!

I reckon he'll be happy enough, it's not his first car, that was a 92 laser, he's worked damn hard for a few years now and deserves to get into this one. I think it's probably the one to go for as it does have quite a few extras as well, factory fitted bluetooth and ipod option for starters. Should get a good run with it hopefully and no doubt he'll be posting up pics as a newbie on the forums if he gets it !!

                      lol

Mine had the forward clutch in the gearbox stuck on, so it would drive off in Neutral and Reverse it would just sit there and vibrate trying to go both directions at once!

$750 ain't bad for a car that lasted 4 years

I think the only other feature missed by everyone that the Sportline has are the fog lights in the front as well.

The only other issue is that he'll be up, late at night trying to swap bits with the GT.....

You're meaning my son I presume, the GT should be pretty safe in that regard, he knows a lot about IT (computers and networking) but doesn't know one end of a spanner from the other when it comes to cars.

The IT skills have come in handy though and he makes me look computer illiterate when he has control of a keyboard.
