Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • mp3 player Aux in 3.5mm - 2006 GTi

HELP... I've done a heap of reading on a number of forums and google searches and can’t find any definitive answers.

I'm looking for something that will allow me to play my IPOD (or any MP3 player) through my radio (I hate my itrip FM modulator), and I don't want the factory IPOD connector with what seems to be limitations on controls.

Is there anything available to install a 3.5mm Aux input into the 2006 non SatNav stereo?

The best thing I've found is something from Jaycar that is still an FM Modulator, but is hardwired into the car Arial (has anyone used one of these... are these better then other FM modulators) something wired into the unit it self would be preferable.

Can the Aux harness etc from the current model work (are they the same radio)? does anyone have partnumbers for the harness and bits needed?

    Thanks.

I have installed a 'Connects2' kit which will fit to RCD300 & RCD500 radios. Works perfectly, put the 3.5 socket in one of the blank black plug were the switches go next to gearshift. Plugs directly to the OEM harness plug for the radio plus 1 additional wire for an earth.

To make use of that socket you press CD button until AUX is displayed.

    Easy.

PS. I may have a perfect s/hand one for sale, just installed AVC-9000 unit which already has AUX input.

The Connects2 kit is the way to go, this is what i would have done if VW had not come to the party and installed the aux as advertised in all the brochures.
