RCD300 MP3 ID3 Tag version

Anyone know what version of ID3 tags the MP3 player on the RCD300 uses?

The user manual says it reads ID3 tags, so it will definately read ID3v1. The only question is if it reads ID3v2, which I doubt (bumbling programmers always forget Replay Gain).

Well, one way to find out. I'll try it and report back.

Plays and displays ID3 tags versions 1.0, 1.1, 2.2 and 2.3. Titles did not display using ID3v2.4.

iTunes seems to convert music to MP3 in version 2.2 by default.

Looks like those programmers were on the ball.

For those of you who may be interested, the manual of the RCD300 head unit (with MP3 functionality) states it can play music with bitrates from 160-256kbps

Seems to handle 320kbps too. Not sure if this means it can actually play tracks at the rate or plays them back at a maximum of 256kbps.

I was refering to them not programing Replay Gain. I'll still be willing to bet the sops didn't program that (most important) feature.

In iTunes, there is an option for normalising volume levels. I guess one could use that before recording songs to CD.

Yep, get a very quiet song and a very loud song, run them through replay gain without saving album data (track replay gain only) and both should play at similar volumes.

Normalising and replay gain are different. Normalising makes all tracks sound a similar volume.

Replay gain can do that, or can maintain dynamic range within an album, but make the album similar volume to other albums. ie, you'll still have relatively quiet and loud tracks within the album, but the album will sound similar in volume to other albums. It is also non-destructive and can be applied after compression.

I've had an MP3 player in my car for some 5+ years, and the difference between my car and Winamp is that I need to adjust the volume every 3 or so songs in the car.
