Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Got the car back

OK, this morning i picked my car up from the smash repairers after my run in with that dog about two and a half weeks ago. Arrives at the panel beaters early and saw my baby sitting out the front looking in much better condition.

Went inside paid my excess and went and jumped in the drivers seat. Placed my phone in the centre console cupholders (where it always lives) and noticed my bottle opener / dividier thingy missing!!

Upon further inspection also notice black marks everywhere over my leather and trim. Rang insurer back and said not happy and they asked for me to take them the vehicle for a re-inspection.

reinspected this afternoon and they agreed on the marks and are having it details asap, but told me that the bottle opener will have to be filed as a police report. I suspect the tow truck drivers but insurance company was saying 'why would they take'. I said how the hell should i know but it was there when i handed it over to your tow truck company and its gone when i collect my car.

Anyway will take that up with AAMi head office as i cant see the point in filing a poilce report etc for something so small. I mean really its a pain in the . to go to a police station log it all etc etc. and im sure the nice policeman (or woman) has real work to do.

So all in all although happy with the repair job spewin about the above. I keep the inside of my car in perfect condition giving the beige leather, and i have it professional cleaned monthly so to see it like that Really p*ssis me off.

Both my cars are insured with current insurer and if i cant get my bottle opener replaced by them i am going elsewhere out of principle with both our cars.

    'Rant over'

I would change insurance companies AAMI are absolutely useless if you want your car repaired to a high standard.

Hi all, It has now been 6-weeks of waiting for my Insurance repairs and I have finally got my baby back. The problem is my baby now looks retarded and wails like a banshee... every single panel is misaligned, covered with imperfections and the metallic elements of the paint aren't matched...

I could bore you my stories about AAMI but you can find them by searching here and golfmkv.com (some of them anyway).

Currently I'm using CGU, 3 year new for old and choice of repairer.

            Damn, sucks to hear that.
Let us know how you go, I hope you get them to compensate you big time, I hate when the smallest things go missing.

But that is their REAL job. Taking reports & statements is about it.

Yeah but they won't be interested in a $40 bottle opener and it's a complete waste of their time and yours as they won't investigate and AAMI are being pricks.

Yer but someone's gotta do it, else it'll just keep happening. I know it's a pain..most of the things in Aus are just not worth argueing for, and ppl go with that and let a lot of ppl off way too easily

It's a $40 bottle opener that went missing sometime between the car being towed and being collected after repair, the police don't have the resources to investigate and no-one they talk to will admit it and the police won't have grounds for search warrants so no chance of finding the bottle opener.

I agree with what you say but in this case it would need too much work to find the culprit.

I know from a principle perspective you want to go all the way, but in the end all you will get is frustration as it will be impossible to find out who the culprit is.

Besides, if your with AAMI, I would be grateful that the car has been fixed properly

When my car got towed after the smash, I lost a Snap-On ratchet handle, 2 deep sockets and an 18 inch extension along with my 10mm spanner and a pair of Serengeti drivers.

I chucked in the car while it was upside down and my wife watched them get put in the back of the car after it was righted by a copper.

None of them has been seen again. The tow company have been 'investigating' my missing $500 worth of gear. My arse!

The car was stored in another companies yard overnight, the accident happened at 8 pm on a Thursday and I was round there before dinnertime Friday to get my stuff.

Not much window of opportunity. I had to pay the tow company to get my car back too.

So if you have a wreck in Adelaide, call me to find out who not to use.
