Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Golf MkV: Central Locking issue

Hi All, it's my first message here, I have Golf MKV since March 05.
I just found interesting feature that might be a faulty system, not sure.

    1. I noticed that sometimes the red LED takes ages to start flashing.
    2. When the car was 6 months old I reported that to a dealer, but a computer scan didn't reveal any problems with it. All further services never found any faults.
    3. So when you lock the car with the remote and then press again - the blinkers would flash once and sometimes the red LED on the door would stop flashing for 10-20 sec.
At that moment I can open the door with a key.
    - The door would open
    - no internal light turns on,
    - then you can close the door with key and the red LED is still off and you can't hear locking sound of solenoids.
    4. While the door is open with no lights on inside in 20-30 sec the red LED and the internal lights do activate. So I have opened door, flashing red LED on the door and internal lights are on.
    5. If I press unlock on the remote the system would reset and function as normal. I was able to replicate this three times tonight.
The car has two stage locking/unlocking programmed by dealer.
Can anybody try to do the same please?

It's a known problem generally they replace the controller and the problem goes away. It may also be the lock. Take it back to the dealer.
