Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Key Remote

    G'Day Everybody,
I have a Mark V Golf and it appears that the battery in my key's remote control is on the fritz. I've checked the manual to find out how to replace the battery. It doesn't seem to explain how to replace it. Does anyone know how to replace the battery, or do I need to take it to a VW dealer to get them to replace it?

    Thanks
    Deek

It should be in the manual, I remember seeing it in mine (I think)..

You take the shell apart and then the battery is there.

i love how the user manual tells us useless crap like decribing how to open the door and use the indicator... but in the section on flat key battery it's advice is to "replace the battery". i gave up trying to open mine a yr ago when it died and took it to the battery bar on my next trip to adelaide. $10 and 2min later problem solved.

nice link to vortex btw. handy for future reference.
