  • Removing the Badges from the Boot

    Hey all,

I recently picked up my new black MKV 2.0 fsi with 18" visions, tint and the VW bodykit. I want to remove the badging from the boot to give it a sleaker look but all the guy at VW service said was "don't damage the duco" when i asked him for advice.

So far ive been told pretty losely that either running fishing line down behind the numbers/letters, or heating them with a hair dryer before peeling them off is the best way to go. I had a little look around and couldnt find a thread on it so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers, Xan.

    Welcome to the forum!

I did the same with my MK3 golf but used a heat-gun, albeit a bit of a powerful one as it melted my "Golf" badge with the "f" dropping off on a 30' angle from the end So yes it can be done, and if you want to keep your badges just use a hair dryer or a heat-gun on low heat.

Fishing wire, no need to heat its just self adhesive foam that hold them on.

3 or 4 strokes per letter and they are off.

              Domestic products:

Remove with hair dryer and dental floss.

Clean with meth.spirits or eucaliptus oil.

Personally I've had the most success with fishing line as well, however I first poured boiling water on the badge to soften up the glue.

It sounds a bit extreme but it made it super easy to get rid of all the adhesive off the car, and didn't damage it in any way.

Probably a good idea in Hobart Otherwise just wait for a warm, sunny day and leave the hatch open to catch the sun for a while (or use a hairdryer as blackmagic suggested). Personally I used waxed tape floss - works a treat.

Park it for a few days in a dodgey suburb. Those kids are good.

                          Hi Blackmagic
Metho or eucalyptus oil wont be too harsh for the paint ?
Some people say scrape off the adhesive tape with fingernail ... wouldnt that scratch ?

Nope - I often get sap and other sticky stuff off my paint with my fingernail whilst washing the car. Fingernails are pretty soft, especially if they're wet.

Tea Tree Oil also works and leaves less residue than Eucalyptus.

BTW TTOil is totally awesome in removing chewing gum from anything - actually alters its nature and makes it just crumble away from fabric or concrete or anything
