  • Centre console storage lid wont close

The lid of the small storage compartment (the one with the 12volt outet) wont close on my car. Pushing it down doesn't seem to click it closed. My wife has managed to do it, but she has to try several times.

Is there a trick to doing it, or am I looking at my first warranty claim?

There is a similar one in the Polo. I have had occassions where I have pressed it closed 3-4 times before it would lock. Most of the time it closes first time.

May be something you have to find the right technique.

I think you need to open it fully all the way back first before it will close all the way back down. It has like a stepped mechanism on it which locks in stages as you open it so to release it you need to open it all the way back first.

The one at the front has an open mechanism on the right hand side under console. Check there are no wires or fluff in the areas.

I use mine as a coin tray, and on occasions a 5 or 10 cent coin has got lodged vertically on the rearside (gear lever end) of the compartment. You can't see the coin and it's hard to feel it, but it's enough to prevent the lid from locking down.

Check to see if anything's been caught in that rear section.

Sorry, I was thinking of the centre console lid not the coin tray one

I think it's best to close the lid gently and not press too hard, the springs are quite sensitive.

are you lifting it all the way up before attempting to close it completely? on delivery my dealer told me that this is a must, and mine doesn't close any other way.

I think some people are confusing the centre armrest storage with the little flip-top one in the console underneath the aircon..

Mine got stuck and same as above, had a coin stuck..

Yeah, thanks guys, it is the little storage box underneath the aircon. Went out this afternoon and I said to wife I couldn't close the lid. She looked at it, pushed it down and it closed! Lucky!

Anyway, I'll take advice on board about something possibly stuck inside or some debris in the way. Maybe one day, it'll work for me!

had the coin stuck there before.

i also closed a few weeks back and heard a "crack" then it wouldnt close at all. figured i snapped the plastic latch.... until 3 days ago when it decided it would close again! straaaange.
