Does anyone here know where VW install the sensor that automatically switches on and off the headlights? Sometimes my lights will go on by don't seem to switch off. In other times, they won't switch on even though it is on the verge of getting quite dark.

Also, where is the outside temperture sensor? It seems to be fairly accurate but obviously affected by heat from the road.

The light sensor is behind your mirror, you can see it clearly when looking at it from the outside. It may be dirty or could even be faulty. This is also your windscreen wiper sensor.

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that there are 3 outside temp sensors - front bumper, roof, rear bumper.

It does seem pretty accurate to me as well.

The temperature reading from my car is always within 0.5 deg C with the temperature they announce on Nova 100.

I say that's as accurate as you're going to get.

I would've liked a feature to see the internal temperature too. (I'm guessing this could be one of the hidden features of the climate control?)

The real temps are readable on the climatronic, there are about 8 different measurement points in the car, most inside the AC ducts.

still on topic about sensors... there is one in the top of the dash.. anyone know what that is for?
i thought that might be the light sensor.

That's for the AC system, it measures light but also radiation (not sure of the exact way but it's to do with the strength of the sun which is not the same as the brightness of the light).

there is a sensor in the top part of the dash... the piece that you have to remove in order to get to the stereo... noticed it when i had the AVC9000 unit installed in the car. they had to disconnect the sensor to get the plastic part out of the way.
