  • Rear side door wouldn't open

    Hi all,

My golf's rear side door can't be opened. At first, I thought it might be the childlock is activated that can't open from inside, but have tried from outside, still wouldn't work...
Anyone knows what it can be?

    Thanks.

Have you tried cycling the door locks a few times?

Pressing the unlock button on the drivers door a few times as well?

Even if it does open now take it to the dealer as it will have codes in there for the failing lock.

Locking solenoid may not be actuating.

Try unlocking the car with the key in the door lock as it may be a programming issue?

This has been a common problem lately.

The door lock assembly's jam up & can be an absolute pain to get the door open!

Try cycling through the central locking button locking & unlocking all the doos's on the driver's door a couple times while trying to open the problem door outside handle.

If unsuccessful, take it to a dealer.

        They are a pain!

RTFM, there is a combo to set it so only the driver's door opens OR so all doors open with the key and/or lock/unlock function.

That's correct, if you go into the MFD there is a setting, I think it is in the Lighting and Convenience function under Doors, check and see if it is set to ALL if not use the arrow keys select ALL and then press OK. When you say you are unable to open the other door from the outside, have you checked to see whether the button inside near the handle is in the unlocked position. As others have said though if after running through the simple procedures doesn't fix it take it to the dealer. I accidentally set it to driver's door only once while fiddling with audio settings, fortunately my 15 yo son had already made himself familiar with all the functions and knew what had happened which saved me any extra embarrassment.

              Thanks all,

Following your valueable suggestions, I tried using key cycling lock / unlock the door a few times which I have never used once before --- it works finally.

The rear side door has only been opened, At the most, of 10 times from new in the last two years. Don't know if this may also a factor lead to the jamming door. But we would expect that to be functionable at all times, wouldn't we.

              Thanks to you all.

Glad to hear it's working OK again, it still might pay you to mention it to the dealer at your next service. Electronic gadgets are great but most have hidden gremlins which sometimes need a shake up !
