Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Gearbox issue - 06'Jetta

The issue im currently having with my 06' Jetta FSI 2.0 is currently being dealt with by my dealer as a warranty issue. Having asked them if this issue is occuring in other similar cars, im told no. Cynical me doesnt believe this.

When the car is moving from 2nd to 3rd gear, it feels like the gears slip occassionally causing the car to seem like its in neutral. I perservered with it for a month or so thinking that it would clear up (like a rash) but nop, it began to get more frequent. I took the car to my dealer and initially they told me that it was `my driving style'. At this point I was near fuming. I told them to keep the damn car for the day and see if they can work out the problem. They dont know for certain what the problem is but they tell me its the module or could be the box. Whatever.

The dealer wants the car for a week in a couple of weeks time so they can repair it.

I must say that being a first time VW owner, I'm not really impressed.

Has anyone else had similar issues with their Jetta's??? I genuinely would like to know.

Can't answer your question, but I suggest demanding a loan car if they need your car for that long.

I have an 06 Jetta TFSI also and a mate of mine has an 07. We both have the same issue and it became more apparent when we were chipped.

It appears to be a common characteristic of the DSG.

There are a few threads floating around which touches on this.

so what did you end up doing about it. if this issue is a `characteristic' of the dsg gearbox, then frankly i think the dsg gearbox is garbage. its not normal that the car `clunks' into gear, esp a car of only 2 yrs old.

I have done nothing about it as I dont find it too much of an issue but maybe mine is not as bad as yours. Mine is certainly not a major clunk.

Check out this link. It will give you a better understanding of the DSG and what may cause this.

A lot of people on forums have questions about the DSG gearbox and in particular do notice, or complain of, a "hesitation" when getting going with it. Or they may find that it takes an inordinately long period of time for it to change up or down a gear. This guide is aimed at providing more...

HA-ZING THATS WHAT MY CAR'S GOT!

that service TSB describes exactly what I get in mine.

And it is completely intermittant!!! For over a week now its been great. It can happen so randomly and might only last a KM or so and othertimes it'll last a whole day.

****ing sick of accelerating feeling like there's a stuffed uni joint in the driveline somewhere and the revs skyrocketing to about 4000rpm from 2000rpm and drive kicking in instantly resulting in wheelspin and the ESP then cutting in and making me look like a total farkqaud.

Will bring it up when i take it in early next month!!! I'm actually a little bit excited that this might fix it.....because if it keeps up its garbage i'll be getting rid of it next year. its downright dangerous.

Hang on... if it is the Jetta 2.0 FSI (non-turbo petrol) then it does NOT have DSG just the normal automatic gearbox hence slighty different charateristics. There should be an embossed logo of DSG on the gearstick if it has it.

its hasnt the logo so am i now to assume that the service advisor at the dealer knows nothing about the car????
