  • Airconditioner

On these few 36 degree days Im not sure how well the R32's Aircon is coping. With fan on 1/2 and temp on 20 it blows a fair amount of air but it is not icy cold, just cool.
Higher fan is just noisy and doesnt seem to make a temp diff internally.
I am comparing to previously owned SLK Benzes etc.

    Anyone care to comment?

    I have found that too!

Especially last night after work when it was still around 35 degs (according to MFD). Had it set at 1/2 speed at 20, couldnt feel jack. set it to auto, and it went full speed! Damn noisy!!

So i just switched it off, all windows down, radio off, and listed to my exhaust all the way home hahahaha

That's odd....my VR6 (~14 yrs old) got regassed about a year and a half ago and is still icy cold the fans push out brilliant refrigerated air on setting 1, 2, 3 or 4.

In the GTI I have found it to be pretty loud compared to my Supra.

The Polo GTI is the same. Air is not very cold and the fans are noisy.

Im getting 12 degrees C from top center vents.
Used to seeing 4/5 on most other cars Ive had.

Most air conditioning will reduce provide a 10 to 12 temperature drop, for example cabin temp is 25 the supply air temp will be about 12 to 15. As the car cools down so does the supply air temperature. This temperature may also be lower than on low fan speeds due to the lower airflow and associated drop in refrigerant temperature. How ever its heat absorption capacity will be reduced due to the lack of air flow.

                In simple terms

High speed -more airflow- greater heat absorption but higher supply air temp (12)

Low Speed- reduced airflow- less heat absorption but lower supply air temp (below 10)

                I hope that makes sense?

Mine works great with good cold air on auto setting even when the fan is on one from the highest.
However i am now interested in exactly what temp the air from the vents is so i will now have to measure it.

You can measure it via the climatronic diagnostics mode, gives you a heap of info on temperatures at different points and fan speeds and so on.

What channel is it for the air temp coming from the vents ?

yeah most european cars are the same, not quite as cold as the jap and aussie cars. Certainly sturggles on hot days or if it has been parked in the sun. I find if you turn it down to 16.5 and set the fan speed to where you want it manually. It is loud huh

I'm still working on this but I have a lot of the channels translated now, some still need some work.

The ones of interest will be the temperature setpoints and actuals (5,6,7,

Also the evaporator 9 and 10, there is also 11 the AC compressor.

And 13,14,15,16,17,18 for the temperatures in each of the areas.

21 shows air distribution in percentages.

The AC always stays running as well but at 2% to keep the system lubricated in the event of non use.

If you find any glaring errors let me know as I'm still trying to get the list finished.

Good list Mav, Ta I did find 2 settings max and min swapped on mine. (i have forgotten ) Will recheck later.

I have found the temps from vents using the codes can get down to 6 degrees and 3/4 at evap.

To do this I turned the temperature settings down to Lo.
This seems to put the AC in a different mode and my drive in yesterdays 34 degrees was a lot more comfortable. Time will tell.

So when you want extra cooling turn dual temps to lowest setting. "Lo" comes up on displays and fans turns to full. You can drop fan back to half setting.

Is this only available on GT and R32?
is it available on my TDI because mine seem to struggle on hot days too. But when I mentioned that to a dealer, go tit checked and everything was OK
