  • Windscreen Wipers over shooting

Had the car serviced a fortnight ago (30K).
Used the wipers for the first time since then and found the wiper on the drivers side is now going all the way to the edge of the windscreen and when they wipe at full speed it makes a tapping sound as it is hitting the body work.
Basically the drivers side one is going all the way across which it didnt before, used to stop about 5cm from the edge...
had a quick look at the list of things done on the service but couldnt find anything about replacing the blades or adjustments of the wipers.

Any suggestions of adjusting them to how they were, particularly the d/side.
Since the service I have noticed the arms do come up higher with the ignition on, they always moved to prevent blade memory but they seem higher now and it didnt click until it poured down last night and heard the tapping as the blade was hitting the A-pillar.

I haven't had alook yet (Mk V Golf wipers are nor easy to get to), but I would think you would remove the cap, retaining nut then gently prise the arm off the spline, unless they've really changed things in the last couple of years.

Thanks for the tip, have done so but the arm doesn't want to come off with my efforts Obviously a puller of some sort would help but the one I have is a bit big for it...

      Here's the pics of it....

This how high the thing is now, didnt used to be so...

I've used a flat blade screw driver, with a large rag/cloth to protect the glass/paint, and lever up from the bottom, where the arm fits over the shaft/spigot.

these come off pretty easy by hand but you need to remove the spring tension from the wiper to the windscreen and then it will just rock off. I think the best thing to do would just be head back to the dealer and get them to fix the wipers. If you mess it up theyre not gonna believe that the innitial stuff up was theirs

Thanks guys...I forgot about my mate WD40..Added just a squirt, then a little rocking like Tim mentioned and now they are back to where they should be...
The only reason I could think of for the dealer to muck around with all that was to lubricate the linkages as the service notes mentioned all linkages and hinges greased and lubed....Spanks again people

the windscreen wiper design on the GOLF/JETTA is shockingly ****.

i got mine replaced and they still shudder or smudge the friggin windscreen when it rains making it worse.

ive used rain X and it doesnt do **** either.

                    Dont use rain X.

Get some glass polish powder and buff screen lightly.

Wiper extents are adjustable via VagCom (I think I saw it in there somewhere while having a play.

If you use Rain-X you have to regularly re-apply it to stop it smearing (or remove it altogether). It used to need renewing every 3-4 weeks or so on my vehicles, particularly in winter.

I used Amway metal polish to get my glass really squeaky clean, then applied aquapel - so far it has worked well and lasted much longer than Rain-X.
