  • VW Adapter Help!!!!!

Has anyone had or know how to rectify/troubleshoot my problem below?

When turning the ignition on the VW Adapter connection allows the stereo to recognise an ipod that is plugged in

However all of a sudden last night the stereo stopped recognising the ipod and now cannot play. The ipod has been in the car constantly plugged in for months in the glovebox and no previous trouble.

An I up for a trip to my VW dealer? Or is it something more simple?

    Any feedback would be grateful.

    Cheers,

    Neil.

Have you tried unplugging the IPOD and powering this off or resetting it? Does it work ok outside the car?

Reseated the connector in the glovebox if it has one? If it's just a wire running into the back of the glovebox could it have been pulled and dislodged from the rear of the headunit?

Other then that it's most likely a trip to the dealer.

Just a suggestion if you haven't already tried it, turn off the head unit with the on off push button, unplug the ipod, turn the head unit back on and then replug the ipod. You could also try blowing some air into the connections in case there is a bit of dust or dirt has got into the plug, one dirty contact is all it takes. I have had similar issues with other electronic devices over the years and sometimes a simple clean and a reset every now is all it needs.

Thank you all for your feedack,

I've tried all your suggestions including reseting the ipod nano to no avail.

I even tried the daughters identical ipod. Note ipods both work fine.

I rang my local VW dealer for some advice and their comment makes me think that that know of an issue. To quote a technician "it's more than likely the module that is installed with the adapter, is the car still in warranty?" All in one breath!

I'll be ringing tomorrow and booking it in with the dealer to get fixed.

          Again many thanks,

          Cheers,

            Hi All,

            Well good news!

I now have a new ipod adapter courtesy of a warranty claim. From the feedback I got from the dealer, a faulty module sounds like the cause of the adapter not recognising the ipod.

And as a bonus the dealer washed and vacced the jetta too!

            Cheers

              Hey guys,

I have a '07 GTi with SatNav and am interested in getting the glove box iPod connector

I'd read that connecting the iPod adaptor cuts off the use of the CD changer

Does anyone know if this is right or not?

              Cheers

If you use the "traditional" Ipod link that emulates the cd stacker - yes - it only plugs into the CD stacker port.

If you have an RNS510 touch screen navigation, then you have the option of using a VW MDI (multimedia interface) that is smart, gives you full control over the ipod & plugs into its own interface. You can still run the CD stacker with this version.

If you have the older navigation, you are stuick with the "traditional" version.

I thought MDI was available on the RCD's as well as RNS?

You can have the AUX input (comes standard on some models)
This allows both cd's and aux in (mp3, ipod etc)
You navigate on the player, no big deal.

To the best of my knowledge, only the touch screen family (RNS300?)

As Guy mentioned it has to be one of the new touchscreen units, the RCD-510 (non nav version of the RNS-510 and replacement for the RCD-500), RCD-310 (replacement for the RCD-500) and RNS-510 (A version has to use the more expensive MDI and B version the cheaper one or the more expensive one - no difference in operation).
