Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Programming VW Canbus Gateway - 7N0907530AJ for 2007 Mk5 Golf

Hi. Santa has brought a new hands free bluetooth radio for my daughters'golf. I bought a VW 6.5" RCD330 Plus 6RD035187B (No Name) Radio for VW Golf MK5 MK6 Scirocco R Tiguan Passat Polo Caddy, the Steering Wheel Adapter Harness (MK5) and the

    VW Canbus Gateway - 7N0907530AJ for a (2007) Mk5 Golf

Looking for advice or direct help on programming the Gateway. In Adelaide (Semaphore).

I am somewhat open to buying an OBDII programmer if needed as I will use it for other work on the car too but I don’t want to spend more than I have to.

    Help!

I added a Sony unit a decade or more ago. I did not need to code anything.
    I added an adapter
    Connects2 - Vehicle Integration
    Just a moment...

The harness you have bought will do the same
PQ QUADLOCK STEERING WHEEL CONTROL SIMULATOR ADAPTER FOR RCD330/RCD340/RCD360 | RCD330-SWA

Can gateway upgrade is for battery drain issues.
Some of the adapters have a fix so the gateway does not need to change.

Try this page for some learnings on coding and VCDS cables.

Hi JustCruisin and thank you for the add.

I installed the RCD330, the PQ QUADLOCK STEERING WHEEL CONTROL SIMULATOR ADAPTER FOR RCD330/RCD340/RCD360 | RCD330-SWA (MK5) but left the original canbus gateway untouched. The good news is the RCD330 worked, but it gets surprisingly hot even when it is turned off and even with the ignition turned off / key removed. The so-called battery drain issue is definitely there.

The connectors here Connects2 - Vehicle Integration don’t list compatibility with the head unit I have so I will set that aside for now. I wanted a unit that looks like factory original o got the one I have.

The gateway upgrade is indeed for the battery drain issue.
I have found a workaround Golf MK5 5 New Radio Battery Drain FIX whereby they simply power the head unit from an unused fuse position and they make a simple jumper. I’ll try it as a temporary measure and see if the RCD300 still gets hot. Downside will be the unit will turn off when the ignition is off (so Bluetooth phone will also stop immediately when ignition is off).

Anybody in Adelaide to also do programming if I swap in the new gateway?
