Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Alarm sound

This might seem a strange Q but has anyone heard their alarm go off and what does it sound like? My old car use had sensors that went off regularly.

Anyone know how to activate the alarm without damaging the car? Just curious.

its not that loud.. very high pitched though.

best way to activate it is to lock it with the windows down then reach your arm in.

or.... lock it with the windows down and push the lock button a couple of times so that the interior handles can be opened (normally with one click of the key they dead lock) and simply reach in and open it.

or... if its like my GTI any riced up Silvia, Civic or Supra driving past it will set it off

You can change the sound of the siren via VCDS.

best way to activate it is to lock it with the windows down then reach your arm in.
Or sit in the car and arm it, wait 30 seconds and move around.

This won't work as the doors deadlock when locked and can only be opened with the key or the remote.

trust me it does. ive done it numerous times. by clicking the lock buttons multiple times it disengages the dead locking allowing you to open it up from the inside

I'll test it but it may only do it for the first few minutes after the alarm is armed. Have you checked on your new car to see if it does it?

For reference you can actually alter this so that opening and closing with a key will arm and disarm the alarm. By default they are setup to only lock and unlock via the key with the arming and disarming only done by the remote. You need to do this via VCDS/Vagcom.

I'll check it out, might by some stupid Australian requirement so that criminals don't get stuck in your car after climbing in a window so it should be vagcomable. Even the manual says that once the doors are locked via remote you cannot open them from the inside.

Mine is ear bleeding loud. It does go off if the car is locked with windows down. Pretty much any car driving past will set it off.

I tested mine today....locked myself inside..waiting about 30 secs....then started moving around and waving my hands around. The sound is much more pleasant to the ear than my previous car. Glad to know it works.

You would still look even without the alarm! hehe!
My other car had a sensor and the alarm was a horrible sound really.
